Default Large warships?

I'm running a vanilla SH3, and have a campaign that started in '39. It's now 3/44 and the only warship larger that a destroyer I've seen was a single Bogue in the middle of the Atlantic (mid '43). Not that I want to go up against them, but I was just wondering where all the big baddies are? I'd like to have a giant battleship scare me s---less every now and then, just to spice things up a bit.

They are out there.. but the ocean is a big place... A realy big place... So big it blows my mind...

Seriously though they are out there, just rare to run into them unless you know where to look.

Also with some of the supermod packs you can find several of them in enemy ports now and then, but be warned as usualy enemy bases are heavily mined and full of sub nets.

Playing SH3 vanilla is a crime. I havent seen any game that should be played as vanilla version. So don't explain you're lazy, just download (at least) Greywolves.

Plenty of the big boys in the 2 major mods

Last patrol I crept into Loch Ewe in late 1940 - using GW
Put 4 fish impact into a fat Nelson only for it to sit on the bottom and not count as a kill
My own fault should have gone below keel
At least I managed to bag 2 Fiji cruisers
Even saw my first lit Hospital ship

All ended in tears as usual though as hit a mine trying to evade DD

why why do I keep going back in there

Back to 1939

In my last partrol I actually ran into 2 Light Cruisers on the Coast England. It was the first time I was able to get into position. No excorts. (GW BY WAY) I fired 4 Torps on hit a light cruiser in front. 2nd hit the other cruiser right in the Fuel Bay. The first Cruiser Just took off. The second one Slowed to a crawl and finally listed and died in water.

I shot last torp right into the magazine room and she went down.

I managed to find some info at http://edseek.com/archives/2005/05/0...urvival-guide/ . According to that guy, there are 4 task forces in the game (battleships or carriers). One goes from Firth of Forth to Loch Ewe, one goes from Scapa Flow to Alexandria, and one goes from Gibraltar to Loch Ewe. The carrier goes from Gibraltar to Loch Ewe. Bottom line: hang out west of Gibraltar and save often since that is the choke point for 3 of the 4 task forces. I've also intercepted a light cruiser squadron in the Channel (that would be TF 39_05 going from Liverpool to Firth of Forth). A bunch of light cruiser squads also look to patrol around Africa / Australia but it's not worth it IMO.

In GW there are lots of task forces roaming the coast of Norway, and in the area west of Bergen.
