I'm a complete rookie with SHIII but have become instantly addicted. As an inveterate flight simmer I'm attracted to fairly hard core emmersion and so have no interest in the easier modes of SHIII torpedo targeting. So I'm trying to learn SHIII on the harder level from the start. SO far I have learned (very roughly) to gauge and enter my targets distance and angle on the bow. Now I want to guestimate it's speed but I can't see where on the interface I can just type in my guess. In other words my notebad says that ive determined the distance at 2000, and AOB at say 90 degrees. Now I just wanna say that the cargo ship seems to be moving at 7 knots and ask for a solution without going through the whole timing thing.
Thanks for any help with this. |

Hi, I am an hardcore flightsimmer also, and if you compare for example PMDG 747 with SH3, you will be greatly dissapointed.. see it MS stock planes for the complexity.
The only difference is, the slow pace of it. Adrenaline we can have in both games, being pinged, or try landing the Queen of the Skies in bad weather.. ![]() Still learning with the torps here.. Johan Former PSS member. |

Go to your TDC screen (F6, if I remember right), and there's a series of dials at the bottom that directly control the AOB, range, and speed of the target. You'll also notice that there's a button to the right of those dials that will toggle the automatic updating/manual entering of the target information.
So what you want to do is hit the a/m toggle button, turn the speed dial to the desired target speed (yeah, right... I wish I could change my target's speed like that), then hit the a/m toggle button again. The toggle button tends to be a pain in the arse for me, since it's not quite logical. When it's set to automatic updating, it's directly linked to the notepad you see in the 'scope and UBI (?) views. You won't be able to change its settings in the TDC view. If you change it to manual, you can now edit the settings directly in the TDC view... but if you go back to the 'scope view, and hit the checkmark on the first page of the notepad, it'll force the TDC to update to match the notepad contents. *shrug* |

Good lord Johan, I remember you from back in 1999-2000 when I got into flightsim at flgihtsim.com and avsim.com
![]() Johan and Udi, try some of the mods or mod packages, GW or NYGM or RuB...plus there are plenty of torpedo tutorials around. One cool mod is a graph you can sue to polt distance and time on your chart to extract speed...I use it (part of RuB) then input directly to the TDC. Estimate AoB and range like the real kaluens did with the notepad, or use my WO :rotfl: (well at least on the surface when he is at the UZO). Last edited by joea; 07-21-06 at 09:54 AM. |

A good trick as i recall not to have the notepad overwrite things, is not enter in any data in the first place. So if you dont want it overwriting speed, dont use the speed determing tool, just leave it blank. It will accept partial data inputs as i recall (though i dont use the notepad much)
