Oct 14 1944 U-196 is redy to sail for grid DU 73 eh? are you serious before I can even get to the watch tower were under attack,the dirty b*stards have deserted us, Lorient is enemy hands if it wasn't for the buildings we would be dead, I set course for the channel takin damage from the 4 merchants docked there, the first 2 I took out myself 3and 4 were up to my gun crew because the RAF decide to join in as well ordered flank no way am I fightin this battle submerged not in 11m of water 4 B-24s were took down, the 3rd merchant was destoyed but the 4th took my gun crew out and trashed my boat to 49% I eventually had a fireing solution at the merchant and took her out did a reload and tried to do some repairs before entering the channel but my trusty WO spotted a Evart comeing up the channel at 20knt (Idiot) all my tubes are loaded with Ge7e's)fired my first off toward him he's 2800m and closeing and now I have a armed trawler behind him doing 10 knts.,the Evart got destroyed at 1200m must have hit is mag he went down in less than 30 secs(capzised actually) next target the trawler fired tube 2 at 1900m impact was at 700m what I di not realise the RAF was still here they did ther job well my hull inegrity went from 49%to 23% deck gun destroyed,pd destroyed. flak guns destroyed, rear tubes destroyed, ther wasn't a lot working on U_196 when we left the channel of Lorient and we did not do our patrol grid.
We made Bergan on 25th (we couldn't even bury or dead at sea)air attacks were horendous even at night (IXD2 not the best dive times) but I and my crew will avenge the deaths of my NCO's before this war ends.

I started a career in Bergen in '45 once just for the Heck of it, and an air raid started instantly once I entered the first patrol. I mean, right after the "Not so long ago..."-initialization sequence. The British sent a fligth of bombers over the city, sinking several ships. I was safe in the stupid sub pen that never existed in reality (I should know, it's my damned hometown)

I always wondered what'd happen if a port suddenly went hostile with you in it between missions.
