Default June 20th : Germany v Ecuador

If Ecuador manage to beat Germany it'll give a strange psychological twist to the England v Sweden match afterwards.

So far, the only team that has conviced me to be ready for the knockout games are the US. An astonishing kick-anything-that-moves perfomance of the US boys in the brawl against Italy with only 9 US players left on the field in the second half. Now let's see how ready England and Germany are.

The official Police chronicle from yesterday reports that the Police in Cologne had to help 2 English fans out of their misery to find back their car. They had parked it in the tiny streets around the Cologne Cathedral and -to be safe- had written down the name of the street: ---"Einbahnstraße"---
which translates into something like "One-Way-Street" in English. Sound like an urban legend? Yes, but again, this is taken from the official police reports and it is known that German policemen don't tend to make jokes.
Overall good news: It was not David Beckham who got lost in the streets.

That is strange, because the traffic sign for "one-way-street" is a symbol only without any written letters (white dash in a red round shield). So how could they have written that as a street name? More important news may have been that there were the second clashes of this cup, this time between German police and English hooligans after their last match. As I got it, they brought the situation under control quite quickly. The first such incident were with some Polish hooligans who did not have enough time to really start a bigger show. Seems the police is very well prepared over here. All in all everything is very peaceful here, and overall atmosphere is far more open and enthusiastic than previously was expected from us cold-blooded, low-tempered Germans Even the patriotic sentiments are strionger than anyone has foreseen: the demand for German flags and Germkn stickers and fan stuff like that is said to top the previous stockups by a factor of ten. (!) All producers are frantically reacting, but simply are overwhelemed by the demand. No one expected it to be so high. I do not recognize my dear fellow countrymen anymore :rotfl: Of course, their are some foulplayers from the Green and the left who stood up in front of cameras and regretted that German flags are shown in such quantities, for this would not fit any poieple who had started WWII. That there has been a history before and after Hitler, they totally oversee. But what would literature, art, music, philosophy, invention be withiut the people of German language? There would be a huge big hole in world culture's heritage. Morons.

@Skybird

You are talking about Zeichen 267 VwV-StVO:
http://www.sicherestrassen.de/VKZKat...log/Kat267.htm
and I was talking about Zeichen 220 VwV-StVO:
http://www.sicherestrassen.de/VKZKat...log/Kat220.htm

Zeichen 267 VwV-StvO means "no traffic for vehicles" and is to be find when you try to enter the one-way street from the "wrong" side.
Zeichen 220 you can see, when you enter the one-way street from the "right" side.

You are no tourist, so what is your excuse?

I have no car, it is hot weather, and a glass of red whine in preparation for the match - that is my excuse!

3:0. Superior match by the Germans. From now on, they will need to prove that they also can compete with the first league in world football. But their performance so far leaves no reason for fears. In this condition they can successfully compete with everyone.

Present .
The match nonetheless smelled fishy.
FIFA, sponsors & co would not appreciate a Germany - England or Spain - France or Brazil - Italy in the next round.

At least this result makes a meaningful match of England v Sweden.

Germany looking good and with home advantage.

The win does not mean much with Ecuador with 5 replacements.
Let's see how the "Bratkartoffeln" will do against Sweden.
50:50. If they win that match, then I will speak of a "good team".

Sounds good, old sport. I spend most of my time in the pub. I am fascinated by those women who have put on again the original world cup winning football shirts from 1990 which Daddy bought them back then when they were kids which they no longer are, now 16 years later.
