Default Kilo sensors

Wow. After downloading 1.03 and LWAMI patch, the Kilo is blind and deaf underwater...

Had a home made scenario in the persian gulf. Had a number of small craft in the area. Could not even hear a fishing boat at 2km. No contact on Broadband or narrowband sonars. Unless I stuck a mast above the surface and used ESM and periscope, would have never known it was there... Had sand and surface duct in enviormental cond.

Don't sound right....

Well, sand is the worst bottom limited environment you can get!

On the plus side, the kilo isn't detectable on surface active sonar in such conditions until well under 3nm.

Incidentially how fast was the boat going?

BTW welcome back... wait until you see the subs rising to the surface. :rotfl:

Sounds fine to me. There definitely are times when sonar cannot see very far. Especially in awful sonar conditions such as the Gulf. That's why collisions still happen. And the Kilo has the worst sonar of all the playables I believe.

I just happened to have several scenarios I used to test sonar performance in bad acoustic conditions set in the Persian Gulf using a sand bottom.

I picked up a fishing boat on the kilo hull array going 10kts at 4.3 nm. Pretty bad, but bad within specs.

Cheers,
David

PS Also, in 1.03 the acoustic model simulates bottom bounce and other things not seen at all in 1.01. It took some time for us skeptical old timers to buy into the 1.03 model, but its really good. Even a SW with a TB-29 won't see a fishing boat or even torpedo up close if it is under a layer in 1.03, depending on the particulars of the situation.

He was going 3 knots....it was wild to see him easily at 8x visually and not a peep acoustically.

Actually Flat sand bottom is one of the best for Bottom bounce profile!

I was going to say...

Sometimes I worry a lot of the nuance of sonar gets lost in the environmental model.
