I'm sorry to say that I'm not that knowledgable about the patrol tactics that the German U-Boats used when patrolling the Eastern Seaboard of the US. What are the best hunting spots for warships other than destroyers. Right now I feel like I'm tripping over them. I'm in my third patrol in the U-802, a Type IXC. Current date of this patrol is May 25, 1942. I'm currently just southeast of Halifax. Any helpful hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Offhand id say your not going to find any warships other then DD's and armed trawlers. I do know in Unfied campaign theres a task force that orginates somwhere south of NY, and runs through the straights between the Eastern florida coast and the bahamas, rounds florida, skips the gulf of mexico i think, and heads down towards panama. At least, thats as near as i can descern from the reports ive gotten about them.
Most of the merchant traffic which traverses the whole length of the eastern seaboard, is closer inshore up on the continental shelf in about 20-30 meters of water. If you hate shallow water as much as i do, DB98, and the sector just northh of it is a good spot to frequent. I think the waters NE of New York, towards halifix, but SE of halifax is somtimes productive as well. |

I read somewhere that if you want to bag a liner or two, there's a route for them going from Halifax to Liverpool.
And no, I haven't gotten any there yet. lol I'm in the middle of raiding Curacao in my Type IXB.

It was good hunting! LOL Okay, results from raiding Curacao are as follows: 3x T3 sunk (couldn't believe it myself until I actually looked at my patrol log), 1x T2, 1x C2 sunk. And I looked at my latest patrol orders this morning...BDU's sending me to the Arctic.

Look for the main passageways north of Curacao, turning NW towards the Keys. I've had a bit of single merchant (cough) hunting there. Otherwise, the best hunting ground, in my mind, is where the St. Lawrence meets the atlantic. Huge convoys, Liners, etc. Lush, abundant tonnage.

Your back! As for single merchants.. Not in MY game ![]() After mid 42 i have them spawning in mini convoys of 3 ships with at least two elite DE's to give me something to think about ![]() |

TW2 should give you a good run for your money. You can most defiantly kiss that 1 million tons bye bye. If i didnt have so much time invested in my own mods i'd give TW 2 a closer look. As it is, i catagoritically refuse to drop my work. IT would be throwing away a years worth of tinkering, something i wont do. I might however pick it apart and use the bits that i like. I just havent really had the time to go through it yet.
As for the single merchants.. oh keelbuster with the convoy fetish, of course i did! When i travel 20-30 days to a sector, i expect to be put through the ringer a few times. Heh infact, i made every HK group in my game elite. Something most people seem to avoid. I came a hair close to just making ALL crewratings elite. Survivign a depth charging in a type 9 is somethign to write home about. It's really not that much harder then a type 7. The major difference is you can't turn as fast. So presenting a narrow profile is a tad harder. My response is usually to go deeper. :rotfl: I have plenty of memories of creeping along at silent running on the edge of crush depth, with my boat dogpadding. Bow up, stern down, struggling to maintain depth. Fun stuff! |

The only place I know wher to hit a liner is either NY harbour or go to ED98 and park your bout mid cente of the inlet and wait for the Big convoy comeing out of Port of Spain, half a dozen Troop ships a cruiser, a Liner, and about half a dozen escorsts.

Last time I pushed crush depth a DC tweaked my hull and I blew - in 2 seconds. It didn't have time to play audio on the crew damage reports - it was just the death screen. I don't go that deep anymore. I don't go below PD unless I have to. I've evaded 3 DDs at PD. No point in diving - you can dodge really well with the peri. But i've been saying this ever since someone else told me it works. As for elite HK groups, well, yer burned if you get caught. I usually detect them before they detect me. Once I got lured in by the escort carrier. I got her, but her boys got me...
