So I never make it to later in the war. Usually quit. Sometimes die. But I'd like to start going later if I can. My fear is I'll get wasted before I get a chance to learn anything.
I know the basic tips. Facing a DD head on. Staying shallow to aviod the sweep.* But wondering about how each player handles things. It is a game about decisions. What ones do you make when you say, encounter a heavily escorted convoy? Where I am now, I don't think I can even get close enough to fire at said convoy before I'm being hunted. *about staying shallow, does that mean surfaced fully? Or just maybe just a few meters above normal PD, or what?

Just starting to get to grips with the end of '43 myself. Generally I use snorkel to get ahead of the target(s) (with periscope up looking for aircraft!). Then move in at PD at 2 knots to finialise the position. Shoot and scoot. The moment the eels are on the way, 60-90 degree turn and depth, rig for silent (to get out of the position the escorts will look for you). i.e. Clear Datum! Sneak well away and re-aquire, if you're game. |
