Default Can't Leave Port....

Whenever I play a mission where my sub has to leave a port toward open ocean I can't seem to get out of port without scrapping the bottom. Even when there are 30+ feet of water underneath my keel and I'm going really slow the submarine will suddenly and randomly weird out and go 45degrees or begin bobbing wildly for just an instant, but enough to ram the hull against the bottom.

Its really made some of the more fun missions in the game unplayable, like SubGuru's "We dive at dawn" or Silician Wedding 6" as well as some of the stock like "Contact Madness"...

... has anyone found a solution to this frustrating predicament?
