Hi all, some noob questions.

Hi guys, been following this forum for the last 2 months (since i discovered DW), but registered just now.

About myself: Not from an english-speaking country (so dont mind a few spelling mistakes here and there

).
Age: 31
A mechanical engineer with a background of ELINT operating a few years ago.
played Jane's 688i, had it and gave it to a friend from the uni' never to see it (and him) again

.

problem is - DW is not sold at my country, so im about to purchase it from the UK, but it will probably take me more then a month to get it so im still playing with the demo (damn).

ok enough of this boring bubling, now for the questions:

1-DEMON: from the manual i understand that the number of blades is the number of all the lines BESIDE the first 1 on the left, but on ONESHOT's guid there is a pic of DEMON with 7 lines and it says that there are 7 blades.

2-are there any more scenarios for the demo beside those 4 missions in SUBGURU's site? since right now this is the only way for some DW variety for me.

as to the second question that is pretty much it for the demo scenarios, but if you want the game faster you should check out Steam, you can buy the game and download it right to your computer. You can find it at http://www.steampowered.com.

As for question one: the number of lines in the demon IS the number of blades of the contact, WHEN the signal strength of your contact is great enought.
If the signal strength is low you won't see them all anyway.

Yeah, i know about STEAM option but i really hate STEAM. plus i have a bit of a "game-boxs fetish" .

and of course i want all the extras in the EU release.

Me too...and steam is a joke. How much does Half-Life 2 cost?!

They seem to like taking advantage of people who can't easily get these games...

I don't understand why it is common to think that digitally distributed gamed should necessarily be cheaper than their boxed counterparts... distributing over STEAM costs money too, nearly as much as retail, and it's the same product more or less (with some security functions).

I don't believe that...and you'll never convince me otherwise. Let's see...they don't have to pay manufacturing costs for the box/printed paper/cds, they don't pay shipping costs, they don't pay distribution costs and on top of that, there is no "in the bargain bin it goes" loss for non-sold products.

And you really expect us to believe hosting this game on an on-demand server has the same costs? Please...

Now, if the producer of said games up the price when they give steam the rights to sell the game...is another matter. I doubt it though. Notice how many games are sold on Steam...a handful. Makes you wonder why...

...oh and...if what you say is true, how come I can buy Half Life 2 BOXED for half the price on Steam?

I know, for example, with DW, that the patch content for 1.03 took about 35% of the time to bring the patch to distribution.

65% of the 1.03 patch was focused on altering the fundamental architecture of DW to work with the Steam distribution system. Time spent by programmers who work for military contractors on high end workstations does not come cheap, certainly more expensive than some printed boxes and fedex receipts.

On balance, I'd say that the Steam distribution is only cheaper than boxed distribution if *A LOT* of copies are sold, because the cost of distribution goes up only marginally with each unit sold (server time, bandwidth).

Yeah well, I was trying to find a baseball game last year (MVP 2005 by EA Sports) as a gift for someone. The only problem was, in Britain where I live, it wasn't available or ever would be. So...I search online. I could've used Steam (or Direct2Drive..can't remember now) and bought the game for a ridiculous price. Or..I went to the CD Wow website and ordered the game for less then half the price. It arrived by post (from Hong Kong) 4 days later. On the back was written "Only to be distributed in Asia, Australia and New Zealand" so strictly speaking they'd sold it to me illegaly...but...who cares!? Better then being ripped off by these download companies....half price and I get a box too.

Where do you think I got Dangerous Waters from? If I waited for the Euro version...I would've lost interest already. As it happens I got it for half the price people on Steam got it...and that was 6 months ago.

Oh yeah...and SH3, I have the US version (Swastikas on the German naval flags)...not the pansy and historically inaccurate Euro version. I'm all for breaking distrubution rights law.

I'm sure it wasn't going for 20 dollars 6 months ago. I'm talking about the price then. Though I would never reveal my sources...considering they are probably breaking distribution rights law.

Just to be precise, cd-wow did nothing illegal.
The statement on the back of the game stating that "only to be distributed in asia, australia and new zealand" means that those games cannot be imported legally in other regions of the world and sold at retail.
However it is perfectly legal for a customer to buy a game in another part of the world and have it delivered to your home.
The same kind of statement appears on region 1 dvd's (or for that matter on r2, r3 etc...).
Do you thing that amazon (.com, .fr, .co.jp. .ca, .co.uk), dvdpacific, and other r1 etailers are doing something illegal by selling those dvd's to european or asian etc... customers ? Of course not.

Well, ok then. CD Wow had the game for £17.99. Though you know what, I don't think they care about breaking the law and who knows about it. Do a search on them on the internet...and the British courts. And yet they are still trading...wanna bet they have connections high up? And am I flusteres they are selling me an illegally distributed copy? NO...lol. Works out better for me, and I'm not doing anything wrong.
