Default FAT Torpedoes, Magnetic vs Impact

What are they and how are they different from normal fish? I snuck into Murmansk on a patrol in May of '45, and fired off a normal fish at a moored DD, but since i am playing GW, NYGM Unified, it slowly starterd listing due to flooding. So I shoot a FAT one and it explodes beneath the keel, breaks her back, and sends her down in two minutes. Whatever happened to NYGM flooding.... Are these super torps? haha

Also, whats the diff. between Magnetic and Impact detonations?

Thanks

Well a impact detonator uses a pistol at the fron of the torpedo to set it off. It hits -> goes BOOM
A magnetic detonator set off when theres a huge magnetic field in proxemity. Tho utilize this set the torpedoes running depth to app. 1 meter below the ships draft. Then the torpedo when run strait under the ship and explode just beneath the keel, thus breaking the ships back.
Magnetic also has the advantage that you dont need to hit the ship at a 90 degrees angel.

Note that you should only use magnetic in calm weather.
Also note that eventhough you choose magnetic, it will still have a impact detonator.

Read the game manual, pg 51 or 52. It's probably also in the Wiki.

Kb

P.S. FaT torpedoes adopt a search pattern after a preset run distance. You set this distance (and later, gyro angles for the turns) and the width of the search 'ladder' in the options that appear when you press the 'fat' button above the torpedo in the F6 screen. I think they have the same warhead that other torpedoes have.

Maybe this will help with your first question:
