Default Awards

I just finished my 32 patrol and when going over the crew roster to see who should receive a promotion and awards, I noticed something had happened and I don't know why. Four crew who had been awarded the Front Clasp from previous patrols, no longer had the Front Clasp. One crewman who had been awarded the War Badge from previous patrols no longer had the War Badge. I can't understand it because I recorded when these were aarded. Also, a crew member who had completed 31 patrols, the crew roster now says he has only done 25 patrols after finishing patrol 32. How can this happen? Robert.

That is a weird one.

If you use SH3 Commander, it is easy to give the crewmen the medals back.

If you use sh3 commander and use the update all feature, badges which arent historically accurate in the game get fixed. Eg. if a medal or badge wasnt awarded until later on in the war, those errors will be fixed and therefore any badges or medals will be removed.

Hi Heibges. I just got back from patrol 33 and while taking inventory of the crew, those that received medals after patrol 29 are still missing. So, when I start patrol 34 using SH3 Commander, can I give those medals back when I go to the office to start patrol 34 or do I have to wait until I return after the patrol? Remember, during patrol 30, my game crashed because of a power line loss and that's why I think they lost their medals.

Might not be it, but I'd sometimes load the wrong game. IE: The saved game where I hadn't given the medals out yet.

Again, probably not it. But it made me mad when I did it, so I'm venting.

Yes, I was really ticked off when I noticed that the medals awarded to the crew were missing when I took crew inventory (by experience, compartment, moral, resilience and endurance) and found that the awards handed out after patrol 29 were missing in patrol 30. I firmly believe it was because while in patrol 30, the power went out. 2 war badge was lost and 5 Front clasps were missing. I believe they should be replaced using crew management.

Then why does SHIII award the Front Clasp if it was not available until 15 May 1944?????

I'll have to get Commander to correct this error.

Medal/badge faults with SH3:

-Enough U-Boat War Badges are not given after patrol 2 to award to every crewman (fixed by RUb and SH3Cmdr R2.6).
-SH3 awards Commanders and crew the U-Boat War Badge prior to 13 Oct 1939 (wonder why I haven't built an auto-fix for this in SH3Cmdr :hmm:, maybe R2.6).
-SH3 awards Commanders and crew the U-Boat Front Clasp prior to 15 May 1944 (fixable for crew via SH3Cmdr).
-SH3 awards Commanders and crew the German Cross in Gold prior to 28 September 1941 (fixable for crew via SH3Cmdr).
-SH3 awards Commanders the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves prior to 3 June 1940.
-SH3 awards Commanders the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords prior to 15 July 1941.
-SH3 awards Commanders the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds prior to 15 July 1941.
-SH3 awards Commanders the Knight's Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds full stop!
-SH3 does not award the wound badge to crew wounded but repaired during a patrol (fixable via SH3Cmdr).
-Whilst not a fault per se (the feature works as designed) SH3 only allows one qualification to be awarded per patrol (fixable via SH3Cmdr).

The medal (and rank) modelling in SH3 is very poor. But that comment tends to apply equally to most WWII simulations.
