Anyone know where to alter your starting renown value when you begin a campaign? I don't want to go through the academy again, as I know how to operate the sub. I use SH commander if that matters. I'm assuming it's in the cfg file but don't know what to alter. I just want more then the starting 500 they give you.
Thanks...

all renown values are in the basic.cfg.
You can give yourself as much renown from the acadamy as you like, or remove it entirely. Personnlay i removed all renown costs from all subs and upgrades, but increased the renown requirments for promotions and medals by tossing in an extra 0 or two to the requirement number ![]() |

The basic config.cfg in SH commander or the stock game one? I entered some new renown values in the stock game config but nothing happened, I ended up with 500 renown at the beginning of the campaign. There's a lot of different places that have renown values listed, but I just want where you start at the beginning of the campaign.
Thanks...

academy bonus
Its up near the top as i recall. You want to edit the basic.cfg, not the SH3 commaner one. Although SH3 commander will overwrite certain aspects of the game with some of its options enabled. *shrug* edit both. |

BTW Commander doesn't have any lines to change reknown values so there is nothing to edit. Unless you add them in yourself.

Greater career starting renown? Done in just two steps:
1. Edit "AcademyBonus" under [PLAYER_RENOWN] in Basic.cfg. 2. Edit every "PlayerStartRenown**" value, or at least the one corresponding to the Flotilla you want to start your Career in, in Flotilla.cfg. So, assuming that you have completed the academy and set a value of 20000 in step 1 and 10000 in step 2, you'll start with 30000 renown. Or, 10000 if you have not completed the academy. |

Another way to do this is to edit the Flotilla cfg.
Open the flotilla in the configuration folder, click edit, scroll down to "find", click that and a window opens. Put this is the window PlayerStartRenown Now click find. It will take you to the first boat a typeII and with likely say; PlayerStartRenown00 500. You can change that to a million if you want. Now click "find next" and you will go to each boat and can change them as you prefer. When you are finished click save. As always make a copy of the Flotilla file before you start in case you make a mistake. I change them to have more renown for latter in the war as you would not likely start with a new stock 1939 type VII in real life. But, I also have doubled the escorts and increased their crew ratings so I get killed constantly (in case you think I made it too easy! LOL). Wulfmann

To avoid confusion, what you've stated is the same as what I stated as step 2.

JS, yes you did, but some, as hard as it may be to believe, would not actually know how to do it.
I often reply as if some people have never opened a file and try to explain it so they are encouraged to do it. Some times people do not like to admit they are unfamiliar with what we are talking about and may not speak up so never give it a go!. Other times people get upset because they already know how to do it and assume if they know so does everyone else. That is not the case. Wulfmann

There's another way too just alter the renown in the ships .cfg file set from anything you want to.
Ie small merchant alter the renown to say 200 then every small merchant you destroy you get 200 times whatever your setting are in .cfg the downfall is it will be always the same till you alter it again. |

The extension of andy_311's comments being that if you use SH3Cmdr, you can set the "RenownAwardedEqualsRandomTonnage" setting to 1 in "Ship displacements.cfg". Then the amount of renown you get will equal the tonnage of the ship you've sunk (assuming that the ALLIED setting under "RENOWN" in Basic.cfg is set to 1 - if set to 2 then you'll get renown equal to twice the tonnage sunk and so on).
So you can see that there are *many* ways to skin this cat. |
