Hi: I's sorry, it must be listed somewhere but I cannot find it. Where do I find the instructions on how to do manual targetting and do I need a stopwatch and what materials do I need. Thanks

I just finished reading Wazoo's Manual Charting & Targeting Tutorial V 2.3. Now, if you have read my profile you will know why I sometimed have difficulty understanding things. The manual is great although I am having a bit of trouble understanding it.
If there is a moduale out there that can be put into as a single mission to pratice on I would like to know where to download it. If there is not such a module for single mission training, could someone develop one using the mission editor. Use a VIIB sub and a C2 Cargo, so I can try all the types of manual targeting: I - Manual charting at a dead stop; II - Manual charting while moving; III - Fast 90 basic manual targeting; IV - Fast 90 advanced manual targeting; V - Wheel manual targeting and VI - Advanced speed calculation using the Nomograph. I do not have any of the tools needed for doing such style targeting, so it would be gread if those tools were included in the designed moduale for single mission training. Oh, one more thing, what distance in metres does it take for the G7a, G7e and G7es to arm themselves? Thanks, Robert |

Sorry I don't have time explain to you how to calculate different parts of solution, but:
Often you have to get yourself ready to shoot maybe just in few minutes. So there is not time to calculate but you have to use your eyes and "nose". You could try this with a single mission: Just raise the scope and choose your target. First time, don't try to shoot more than one target at time. Have a look, and ESTIMATE Ab (AOB, Angle of bow) and targets speed. Because you won't be sure how fast target is moving ahead, your estimate could be something like "It's making 6 - 8 knots..." So, now you can use 7 knots in TDC (input manually, count those little "clicks" you can hear when moving the needle). Because this is your first time, use salvo of 3 torpedoes and note 5 degrees spread angle is often too much - you could use maybe just 1 or 2 degrees. When estimating Ab you should remember the bigger the Ab is more likely you will estimate it to be bigger than it is. Ab 30 degrees+ is hard to see accurately but it's skippers one important ability to get this information just by using his eyes. ![]() Range you allready know how to get. When using notepad, be sure values are going into TDC. Only speed is not shown in notepad if you input it manually. It's not that hard really. I do plotting usually only in night attacks. Daytime if I'm in good postition to get them submerged without need to travel ahead, I usually dive without any plotting but using just normal approach tactics and my eyes and experience. Good luck, rob! Have fun! ![]() -RC- |

Thanks a bunch guys, I wasn't sure and could not find it in the sinmple manual that came with the game, but my eyes are not that great for looking at that manual. :P It's sure nice of ya to help me. Robert
I just finished my 30th patrol and am having fun, but I have to play it as the easy level 'cause I don't know if I could deal with it being harder. Maybe sometime I'll give it a try. So because I play it easy, my renown doesn't grow much and I keep upgrading U51 (VIIB). I sunk a lot of merchants on that patrol and managed to stay out of the way of warships - there were 5 of them. I kept my periscope down as close to the water as I could and was all stop. I just let the merchants come and pop off what I could. I sunk one troop transport and crippled a second but the last torpedo I had missed, so it didn't count. I am really interested in learning how to target manually and hope I can try that in one of the single missions. The manual on manual targeting is difficult for me to understand or comprehend. What tools do I need to try this in the upgraded stock SH3? I don't think I'm ready to go SH3 Commander just yet, or should I? |

Ive been playing SH3 for a month now and still havent started a campaign. Im training in single missions trying every possible scenario, angle, tactic etc. I play 100% realism with GW+NYGM+EUC and some other mods. Im firmlly convinced that harder settings right from the start and good practice make things easier in the long run.
There are the basics that you need to understand first: the dependecy between bearing, target course, speed and angle on bow. Once you understand how things work you can go one step further and so on. Youll find yourself guessing speed and AoB without a hitch ![]() If i recall corectlly theres even a 7P rule in the US Navy: "Perfect planning and practice prevents piss poor performace" Cheers!

Maybe this link can help you, as has helped me: http://kiwisim.net.nz/search.php?mod...ies&author=284 Here you can find two mission, that you can download and put in the" single mission/ english" They are easy missions where you can practice targetting manually, both with plotting and fire at 90 degrees, or manual targetting if you have not the time to plot a course.. Specially this is very easy, if you have not the time to plot, move your sub in the way it follow the ship in hi " quarter ( means around 320/340 degrees if you are approaching port to port, or 60/70 degrees if the approach starboard to starboard. Than when the course is setted, start to ID the ship, so you can use the notepad, check speed and AOB, until you reach around 1000 meters from the target, than stop the engineslast calculation, set the AOB around 90 degrees( you will find that if you put your sub in the quarter 360 poert, or 60 starboard, the last AOB will be close to 90. Than open tube, follow the ship with periscope, and when the gyroangle is at 000 ...fire... With me is almost fine all the time i try. This is a little explanation about these tuts, and hope will help you. About the tuts of Wazoo, i think that they are the best, maybe a little hard to follow, butt i think that more or less all the tools you neeed are in the Greywolf update. If you need some of the tools, i think that i can provide you with them or someof them. Cheers Stefano |
