I checked this problem out in both GW v1,0 and RUB1.45. When taking the XX1 down to 130 meters or slightly more, I get repeated messages saying that the "Bow Torpedo is damaged" then a moment or two later a message says its repaired. If I persist and try to remain at that depth, or go even deeper, eventually the hull fails and I lose crewman and the boat. I thought that the safe diving depth in the XX1 was about 180-200 meters. If this is so has anyone else encountered this problem. Any help on this topic would be appreciated.

1. Did you hit the bottom?
2. Did you open a given savegame both with RuB and with GW? 'Cause if you did RuB--->GW, then your hull integrity was converted to 50%, due to the different damage model. Did you get your dials' glas shattered when you loaded the game? |

Thank you for the quick reply. No, I did not hit the bottom. I did not use any saved games, I only played a mission. The mission is the one where the XXI attacks a carrier task force in 1944. I did not notice shattered glass in the control room either. Is there a way of examining the hull integrity figure for the submarine?
Once again, I thank you in advance. |

Do you happen to remember the name of the mission? Is this the one you are supposed to be already damaged? Because if you are already damaged (% hull integrity below 100% - see top right in F7 screen only in GW; in RuB this information is removed) then you are not supposed to be able to dive that deep. There are cases with very low hull integrity, that your sub is destroyed in 20 m depth. |

Thanks for your help so far. Did a fresh install, loaded 1.3, then 1.4b. Have not loaded RUB1.45 or GW1.0. started game, single mission XX1, 1944. Hull integrity is 100%. Same problem at about 130-140 meters I get the message "we are taking damage", "Bow torpedo damaged", "Bow torpedo repaired". I also notice that the submarine won't go lower than the depth it encounters the damage. If i keep it at that pressure or a few meters deeper after a while crew begins to die in the forward compartments.

The other is the "XXI" mission. I'm afraid that the seafloor in this one is @ 140 m., so you were actually hitting it. Happens to the best of families. |

Ya it also sounds to me like your ramming the sea floor. If it was pressure you wouldnt be experiencing the same damage in the same spot every time. But your forward torpedo room taking damage, and the ship not going down further all makes me also think that your hitting the ocean floor.
Have your officer (navigator?) check the depth, or just go to the chart station (navigation) and use the Atlas Echot which tells you what the depth under your keel is |

After you mentioned the depth of the seafloor on that mission I checked it...finally. Of course you were right. I've run into the bottom on several of the single missions, but never thought to check it out on the XX1 mission. Thanks for the help. I won't forget to check any and all seafloor depths from now on.

After you also mentioned the depth of the seafloor on that mission I checked it out, you to were right. Another question though. If you ping the bottom to find out what the depth is, on the single mission, and escourts are near, will they hear the ping and be able to locate me ?

I think so, yes. If they are near. You can check this using the cheat-o-meter (it's on the realism settings). I think it is called detection indicator. Not sure; Stopped using it after my first career.
Stop the engines and start pingning the seafloor like there's no tommorow and see if this becomes red (from the initial green). |
