NYGM and SH3 COMMANDER 2.5

When using SH3 COMMANDER with NYGM is it OK to use the other options other than the ones listed in the NYGM instructions?

For example: Is it OK to select to use realistic career length, transfers, dates....ect. ect.?

When you start a career should you use stock sh3 crew file or realistic?

I just reinstalled SH3 after a long lay off from playing it and all the mods are just flat out confusing at first.
