Default Deck guns and oilers don't mix....in close company!!

decided to take out an oiler on the surface with the deck gun. Shot 7 AP shell into the waterline and came to about 700 yard off her port side and was lobbing some HE round in her to finnish her off when all of a sudden she blew like a high pressureized pinada. Took out my entire deck gun crew and serverly damaged me. :hmm:

Moral of the story boys, keep the lighter at a safe distance from the gas can....

That's crazy. I don't know how far 700 yards is - is it like 350m? I've seen a liberty cargo blow and take out a DD that had stopped just beside it. I've blown T3s when submerged 400m away with no damage. But I guess it all changes if yer surfaced. That's wicked man. I'm so glad that that's in the game. Deck crew - blow out to sea.

I never got that close anyway, the target gets slighly under the deck guns arc, makes for a poor waterline shot.

Actually - I just noticed something. I was close to a burning merchant <500m. IT was 9kph winds, and the boat was rocking but the DG crew was still lettin her have it. I had the DG crew aiming for waterline, and I noticed that even when the lead gunner waved his arm (fire), they didn't fire. They waited till the boat rocked and the barrel crossed the enemy waterline, landing a nice shot under there. It happened a few times. I'm kinda into this - using the waves to get the right shot at zero range.

A yard is just about 10% shorter than a meter, so 700 yards would be about 640 meters or so.

I also took damage from an exploding small merchant. I was in the middle of a convoy with a dead escort and got in close to avoid being run over by a neutral C3.
