Your SH3 was destroyed?
Did you use Jonesoft generic mod enabler? If you did I can't see how you could have destroyed your SH3 installation as you can undo any changes. You can get jsgme here if you haven't already done so: http://216.235.153.31/u-boot/SH3must/ Also... all you patrols and medals etc are stored in your my documents folder, so its strange that you lost them. Have you used any mods before? Installing mods over the wrong version of the game often results in a crash. You can get the latest patch (1.4b) here: http://216.235.153.31/u-boot/SH3Patches/ You have a lot of mods to install. Generally it's always best to use jsgme and install the largest mod, working your way down to smaller fixes. If you want to make things alot easier for yourself, you can download the GreyWolves Supermod, which includes the majority of the kind of mods you want to install and more, all in one package: http://mpgweb.de/01/ Be warned, it's big! Any extra mods you still need can go over the top. Any more troubles just ask... |

Thank you for responding. I am not sure how I lost my patrols. I know they are stored in My Documents, but they were gone. Perhaps that occurred as I kept trying to load the program and it kept crashing. I coul d not send the error reports to Microsoft. I got, "program not responding" all the time when the error report came up. I think I upgraded to version 1.4b, but after I went to "add/remove" to uninstall, it allowed me to "repair" so I did that. The program worked and I was able to load my old patrol 4 and started from there. I played all afternoon today to get to patrol 8 from Kiel. I upgraded by sub to type VIIB. Can I still use the mods? I will get the thing you mentioned but I still do not know how to tell if I have 1.4b. Thanks again for responding.

I just left Kiel with a VIIB sub to AN55, should I finish the patrol and go back to Kiel before I install anything?

Yes, you should be in port before you install any mod or patch, since some of them change files that will cause your game to crash during a current patrol. To tell if you are using 1.4b or not, look in the lower right corner of the screen on the main menu when the sim loads, it should say there what version you are using.

Thanks you sir for responding. I most certainly will wait until I return to base. The patch I am waiting to install in the largest [as I was told to load the largest one first] patch called Merchant Variety Pack. However, as I have meantioned in a previous post, I am unsure how to install it. It is present in the MOD file in Silent Hunter III on my XP. It does not give me clear directions on what to do with the two folders it built - one called Silent Hunter III and the other one I forget, sorry. But, thanks for you direction. Robert.

Well, as I was loading the game late this afternoon, I checked every screen that came up and finally, when the career screen came up, down at the bottom right it said 1.4, so I guess I didn't upgrade to 1.4b. I now have and while trying to install it, it found two files that did not belong, so I deleted them. Just in case you are interested, the files were: \data\library\torpedo.sim and \data\menu\cfg\maps.cfg. Once I removed these, 1.4b installed. I am sorry for all the trouble. Now I will start it to see if it says 1.4b on the bottom. Thanks guys. That is probably why I messed up terribly when trying to install those mods. Please forgive me. Robert.

Well, here is what happened. As the main menu said 1.4 I installed 1.4b. When I tried to start my mission the game would not respond. Had to turn computer off as it locked up. Soooo. Now I am getting tired of these problems; I uninstalled the complete game and told it to keep my saved patrols. After I uninstalled it I checked my saved games in My Documents. It said I had only 7 patrols. Well, okay. I reinstalled SH3, re-registered it and as soon as I was done there, I immediately installed 1.4b because I was in port anyway. Okay.

The main screen will only say 1.4 but, you do have 1.4b installed because there is no 1.4 patch. Patch 1.4 was pulled before even being put out and 1.4b was substituted for it but, the main screen was not changed to read 1.4b, just 1.4.

Thany you HW3. But I am having problems installing the subsim patches. I person in one of the links in the previous post, said I needed an Enabler. Yesterday, I installed Course Solver, Torpedo Range, English Flag RecManual, Improved Smoke and Readable dials. My SH3 would not load [as mentioned in the above links] so I removed the above mods and SH3 now works. I don't know which one of them caused the SH3 to crash, so I'm holding off until I get some advise on which order to install the majority of mods offered by subsim.

The newest version of the Generic Mod Enabler is available at this site http://members.iinet.net.au/~jscones.../products.html

I should have explained what it does. You put it in your main SHIII file, start it once and it makes a folder there titled Mods, you then put your unzipped mods in the Mods folder and start the Generic Mod Enabler(JSGME) and you will see your mods listed in the left column, You click on the mod you want enabled then click on the little arrow in the middle that points to the right column and your mod will be installed. At the same time a backup of all files modified/replaced is made and stored so, if or when you uninstall the mod, the origional files are returned to the sim where they first came from. JSGME also tells you when you are going to overwrite another mod file allowing you to decide whether you really want to do so before doing it.

I had already installed JSGME where it was supposed to be installed. However, I did not know I should have put the unzipped mods into the Mod folder and run JSGME again. Is that what I am supposed to do? Robert

Yes, that is what you should do. When you start it, all of the inactive mods will be shown in the left hand column by name. Select one by clicking on it, then find the arrow that looks like this > and click it, Your mod should now show up in the right hand column and be active.
