Default Removing the text from the marking tool

Is there any way to remove the "mark 1, mark 2" etc.. from under the X on the map marking tool. I just use the marking tool to plot the direction of travel of the contacts, and find the text usless, and clutters the map.

I'm not positive about that. If the text is a bitmap from the SH3 image bank then it just a matter of blanking it.

If it generated texts, it either hardcoded, or a simple edit in the menu_1024_768.ini file.

Open the en_menu.txt with notepad.

I believe without testing it, it between line 2710 and 2720.

Just place a semicolon ( before each number (;2710...)

that will cure your problem.... I think.
