Im looking to increase the big guns to suit the 16km atmosphere mod.
Seems silly to have them wait until 5km or less before they start shooting. Considering real guns would have over twice the range of the visibility mod, I thought I could scale things up a little. Around 2x Now I somehow managed to do this when SH3 first arrived at my door (Probably lots of trial and error). Though now for the life of me have no clue what im fumbling with in the guns.sim file. Is there someone with the patience to talk me through it.

Well after working out its 32 bit float and screwing around with Hex Workshop. I ended up stumbling across TT's SH3 Mini Tweaker. Which saves all the trouble I went to
![]() Very nice little program.

I think Cdre Gibbs has a post about long range guns (LRG test). And many screenshots too

Im not sure how the ranges are calculated. Currently its 35000 for most the guns (Unedited). So maybe thats an extra decimal place? Making it around 3500m. The shell ranges are stated as 50000. Again. Could be similar. Im not sure what else would need editing. Ai_sensors.dat? Hopefully Cdre Gibbs is around here somewhere ![]()

Well must be missing something.
No matter how I increase the range for each gun, for the shells or play with the settings I cant seem to get it to change. My ships are 8km appart and I cant even get that far. Tips anyone?

not sure but did you adjust the sensor file / CrewAI ? or do you soot manualy ? If i use the 10.5 Sub gun i can fire long distance manualy but the crew it selfe won't do that. So if you plan that the Big guns fire over long distance then you don't have to increase the shell range but you need to enable the AI to SEE and USE over that distance. I think in the Sensor or the CrewAI.
When you check the CrewAI.cfg then you'll see ranges where the sub crew starts to fire, now i don't know if this ranges aply to the AI Ships to. Found an other file the Sim.cfg where also the max fire range for the AI is in |

The only solution is to increase the detection range of the AI crew.
At standard 8km world radius a long range gun potential is impossible just because nothing can be detected outside a radius of 8000m for the AI visual and 10000m for the AI radar. If the AI visual range is set to 35000m all the guns can shoot at their maximum respective range. But the side effect is that you can be detected at more than 10000m by night because SHIII detection routine can't make any difference between night and day visual line of sight. As far as realism is concerned, in some aspects SHIII falls really short. |

Yes I played around with CrewAI.cfg as well as the sensor file. Though it didnt seem to help either.
I didnt increase visual detection range, but I did increase radar range. As this seemed a more realistic approach. It would be nice to have a variable between low and high for detection instead of a flat number limit. Ill play around a little more and have a look and see what's in sim.cfg.

The weapons in the gun.sim are already all set at 35km or more and the shells at 50km. Also in the sensors.dat is a visual range. Which was also set at 16000m. Still only 8km. Though thats better than 5. Im not sure where else to look for a setting.
