Default Putting th GW Mod in a 3rd installation of sh3

Hi I have been able to run the mod using the Mod Enabler and it works just fine, but I wanted to have 3 installations of the game.
One for multiplay with people without mods, one for a Wolfpack Campaign we are starting, and then one for the Greywolf Mod.

All installments were patched with 1.4b and ran right before installing any Mods. I then copied data files of GW and the GW documentation Folder and went to copy and paste over the original data folder in the Greywolve copy that I made making sure the GW documentaion folder was separate of the data folder. The result was that it copied the GW data folder in to the original data folder. Is this what its supposed to do? I was thinking that it should remove the other data folders and replace it with the GW data folder instead. I have not been able to get it going this way and am stumped here. Please could someone help me out here.
I will gladly explain if you don't understand what I mean.

Default 3 installs

1) Do a fresh install of ShIII and patch it to 1.4b
2) Go to the ubisoft folder and rename the SH III folder to SilentHunter III_A
3) Insert the disc and click install; when the choice comes up, pick repair. This will install a new SilentHunter III; patch this to 1.4B
4) Go to the Ubisoft folder and rename the SilentHunter III folder to SilentHunter III_B
5) Keep doing this until you have enough installs
I suggest you make 5 if you have enough hard drive space and install the JSGME into each one and install the mods you want, including GW, IUB 1.03, NYGM Tonnage mod, and the two others.
These 3 mods are terrific and you should play all of them.
When you want to play one of the mods, go to the ubisoft folder and rename the one you want to SilentHunter III and rename the old one to something else.

In your document folder you will have a folder SH3. You can either use a different captain's name with each install, or you an rename these folders to match the others.

Have fun

What's the difference between doing that method, or just installing once and copying and pasting as many time as needed? That's what I've always done with just about every game I've owned.

BTW if you use SH3Cmdr, you don't need to rename the folders before playing - just set up appropriately named shortcuts to SH3Cmdr.exe pointing to each different installation and SH3Cmdr will do the rest.

That´s indeed much easier.

Default multi install

I knew there must be an easier way.
I do use SH3 CMDR. How do I set up the CMDR shortcuts to point to the different installs?

Right click somewhere on your desktop and select "New" then "Shortcut". Follow the Wizard then by browsing to your SH3Cmdr.exe file and selecting it. Now, before pressing "Next" you will need to add the /l switch. So, at the end of the text now in the Location box, add a space and then

/l:"C:\Program Files\UbiSoft\SilentHunterIII [Whatever you've called it]"

including the quotes.

Now press next, then enter a shortcut name that reflects the SH3 installation you added as the /l switch.

Repeat the above for each installation.

JS,

What about JSGME? If I copy an already modded SH3 folder, I guess I will be copying same sort of log file of JSGME that remembers the old paths, right? Then how do I unmod the second installation?

I'm asking since I want to try GW but do not want to ruin my carefoully built production and development installation

Nup. JSGME is relative. Everything is based on the folder in which it is in. JSGME won't care if you change the name of the SilentHunterIII folder, as long as you don't change the relativity - ie don't delete/move the MODS sub folder, don't rename the \data\ folder and so on, but you wouldn't be doing that anyway.

Thanks JS!

*EDIT* To Moderators:

IMHO, with so many mods / modpacks / mp games, having multiple installations is a must. Shouldn't this thread be stickied?
