Editing Careers.cfg, Careers_0.cfg, etc

I want to change my flotilla and base, in a current savegame in which my character is at port following a mission. I've been looking into Careers.cfg and Careers_0.cfg, and have seen entries for CrtBase and CrtFlotilla, and could easily change those to the desired settings from en_menu -etc. But, there are severall such entries (i.e. repetitions for each patrol, and they are present in both Careers.cfg and Careers_0.cfg) and I'm not sure which one(s) to change. I only want to edit the most current savegame/patrol. Has anyone done this before? If so, what's the structure of the Career.. cfg files?
