Default Mediterrenean Convoys w/ NYGM.

I wanted to ask, has any1 ran into the 20escort convoys that the NYGM told us we would run into. Or has any1 seen a convoy with more than 2 ships, like a medium or large convoy sailing around the med? Those sound scary..
I have ran into a lot of task forces and small convoys with 2 or 1 merhcant ships and 3 very good escorts, but never many single contacts or any larger convoys. My experiences have all consisted of airplane attacks, small convoys, lots of aborting patrols from DCs and ARIEL bombs, and a lot of patrols ending with 2 ships sunk.

RIght now im at 3 patrols, 1 airplane downed, 2 ships sunk. 2 of those 3 patrols was aborted early when near Malta. Damn Catalinas and there 7 bombs. My latest patrol was ended before i could even reach my patrol zone. A Catalina out of either Tobruk or Malta caught my watch by suprise and damaged me so bad it took 1 hour to fix. I was sitting there completely helpless watching my u-boat start to go under but holding its bouyancy. Anyway long story short my torpedo tubes were damaged beyond repair along with my flak gun and deck gun. Main Pump severly damaged and a list of other problems.. This Captain decided to abort. And my morale along with my crews morle is down. I havent touched sh3 for about 2 weeks (simulating leave, haha) but hopefully my 4th patrol will bring some better luck.

Oh another quesion, how long has any1 had to repair damages while at sea? My longest has been 2 hours with RUb 1.43 bottomed out. But never recieved damage like that again, even with direct hits from aeriel bombs.

Try using Advanced Hollywood Mod...versions of Rub up to 1.45 use basic hollywood damage model which has default repair times....hollywood advance extends these repair times longer.....I read somewhere on the forum that they only uses a small group of repair guys like no officers and only 4 sailors to extend it even more to what he thought would be real repair times....my experience has been better since using hollywood advanced....it takes alot longer to repair damage and the crew tires if you use the hollywood crew fatigue model which exhausts them the more they work on repairs...forcing you to give them rest periods........

I thought the NYGM mod includes Hollywood Damage Mod. Because only 4 guys work at a time, but i think in the NYGM damage if u put guys in the area thats being damaged, as well as the "Damage Control Area" things get done fast?? Am i right?

The large Med "OPERATIONAL" convoys are placed historically, ports and date wise, so you wont see a ton of them.

Each Historical "OPERATIONAL CONVOY" is replicated at one occurance on the exact date and even time (where applicable).

There were a limited number of these MEGA Convoys that sailed on certain dates to certain ports so it all depends on where you are and on what date to get a chance of catching one.

If you want a *SPOILER ALERT* just research some of these allied, historical operational convoys yourself and learn what dates and routes they travelled and you can place yourself in an advantageuos position for an encounter. I'd rather leave it up to chance myself.

There are also many additional added convoys which are very well guarded/ escorted and historical as well, again you have to be in the right place at the right time.

Remember, the Med was vastly different than the Atlantic. There were the HUGE Operational Convoys that only operated once each time and lots of micro convoys involving as many if not more escorts. Seeing a couple of merchant/transport ships guarded by as many escorts, usually even more was the norm in the Med due to the small operational water areas and tight borders between the Axis and Allied forces. Also there were quite a few task forces due to the same reasons. You still have plenty of opportunity to hit many Allied convoys of Medium size travelling to from N. Africa as well, especially later in the war, as the Historical Operational convoys were more desperate, Allied, attempts during the early war period, to get badly needed supplies to Malta and through to Alexandria/ Port Said. All done Historically.

If you were expecting something more action orientated you won't find a "Quake" versian of the Med in my Mod though.

Just spend some more time out there and in the late war years you'll find it very exciting ,if not impossibly difficult, just staying alive....especially when the allies have taken N. Africa, Scicily and the Southern end of Italy.
