I'm not a newbie, althrough I don't ever knew, what is the nearest distance of a magnetic torp.
I usually fire them at 500-1500 m, but what's up, if there is rough weather and we see only about 300 m? How can we nail ships in that circumstances? |

For both magnetic and impact, the min distance_to_be_travelled is 300 m.
Not while playing chicken with a DD. For this you will need ~400 m. |

If visibility is only ~300 meters, I don't do surface attacks. Try submerging and using the hydrophone. With some practice and accurate plotting, you can gather everything you need from the hydrophone.
