Default Radio Antenna

Another rookie here,

I noticed while up on the bridge the radio antenna. It looks as if it can be raised and lowered. Can the antenna be manipulated? especially from periscope depth? I've looked for short cut keys. And roamed around the radioroom. I couldn't find anything.

Welcome aboard! No, the radio antenna cannot be raised or lowered.

I didn't think so, as I could not find any way to raise and lower the antenna. The antenna graphic though, looked as if it might possibly be operable. And I thought I might be missing something, somewhere. I thought maybe in the radioroom. Are there are there any other capabilities in the radioroom I might be missing other than sending/recieving messages? Or anything else in that area of the boat? Excluding the sound room. It would nice to view the log book in the captains quarters.

Anyway, thanks for the welcome. I am an old hand of SH I, loved that sim on the old `98. SH II, I was less enthused. Destroyer Command, was okay. Been playing Combat Mission: BO, BB & AK series since those came out. Three, four years? Still am. Some B-17, not much. But now Silent Hunter III has brought me back to the sea. Have not been this impressed with a game for a very long time. Can't wait to get back into the Pacific. SH IV?

Again thanks. And I hope to be around here for some time. Of course with more questions. Most likely regarding all the mods I have downloaded. Yet not installed. Got the sim in January after several computer upgrades. Still need to move up from 512Mb. And that should do it for the PC. Whenever my knucklehead neice gets back over with that memory upgrade. I'm 47, so I let the young 'uns do the computer tinkering.

`Wiedersehen.

I think I read in a thread that the radio antenna was designed to be retractable, but the Devs didn't finish that feature.

Welcome, Herr Kaleun! As to additional functionality in the radio room, later in the war you can get radar on your boat, and you can manually operate it from the radio room. The gramaphone is in there, but in the 3D room it's just decoration. In other areas of the boat, the tube door switches and TDC in the conning tower are fully functional, as well as in the weapons officer station.

That is to bad they didn't get the antenna into the program. I just finished reading Black May; and I believe the u-boats were able to send and receive radio messages from at least periscope depth. Would be handy on reporting convoy's. Oh' well. I'll just have to be quick on the transmitter before I dive. Make a good mod for project for someone out there with the knowledge.

Another question. At the bottom of my messages on this site I failed to add a word to my quote. Is there any way I can have the quote ammended?

Thanks again for the welcome aboard. Can't wait to get home tonight. First career, 18th patrol.

Sometimes, you can receive messages at periscope depth. But not send.
