Default Dock at: Algier

November 1940 - 2nd Flottilla Lorient

My patrol grid was BE94 but there was not so traffic so i decided to pass Gibraltar and have a hunt in the leg of Med from Oran to Algier...well the hunt was great (36K) but i was almost out of fuel and without torpedos so i decided to dock at Algier and i had a big surprise...when i hit ESC there was not "return to base" but "dock at: Algier" !! That's very realistic !! and that's not all, when i returned to office i wasn't able to check for U-Boot upgrades !! And again... my next mission is to return to Lorient with no patrol grid !!

wow guys that rub 1.45 + SH3 commander is great !!!

What happened, Noe, is that you docked at a port other than the one you were ordered to at the end of your patrol. You can do that in the game, but there are restrictions. All you can do is repair and rearm. You cannot pass out promotions or medals, nor can you recruit new crew or change the equipment of your boat. You'll spend the standard amount of time in docks, then your next mission will simply be to sail back to your home port. The "Dock at: XXXX" option appears when you are within about 10 km of a friendly port. If you had sailed away from Algiers, you would have gotten "Return to base" instead, and it would have put you back home.

Since you apparently can pass out promotions and medals when docking at a "milk cow" (I did that a couple of nights ago for the first time) which, as I understand it, is just like docking at any other friendly port other than your "real" home port, shouldn't you also be able to do that at Algiers? (and in fact, IIRC you might need to do that there or perhaps lose the ability to do it when you do finally get back to home port, although it's been months since I docked anywhere but home (except for that milk cow the other night) so I may be remembering that wrong).

If thats the case some one answer me this.
My base in 41 is Lorient 2nd Flottilla IXB sub at the start of a patrol my base is Lorient and end is Lorient I do a patrol to whatever gird am assigned to then bugger off to my favourate haunts (real time for me is around 6-7hrs) after a patrol I promote the crew etc and exit the game when I go back next day and load in the patrol I did last it keeps comeing up yoir base has changed to W/Haven which I know is wrong why?

Yes Quillan i can pass promotions or medals . the only thing you can't do is check for u-boot upgrades and can't look at your personel files. Anyway, when you dock at a "milk cow" your next mission will be to come back to base...but you can avoid it with SH3 Commander, just assigning a grid patrol [/quote]

Isn't a milk cow a mod, so it was probably written into the mod that way? Whereas an actual port like Algiers is built into the game itself, so the standard game rules apply instead of the modded milk cow rules?

Andy, did you start that career with the 2nd, or did you begin earlier in the 1st and transfer?

I don't think the milk cow mod changed how this works - I think the cows just work like regular ports in this regard - IIRC, this very same behavior happened to me the one time way back when I stopped into Wilhelmshaven hoping to top up torps and fuel and head out again rather than heading all the way back to my home port of Kiel, so I don't think this is anything unique to the cows.
