Anyone know where im likley to bump into some large warship? So far ive done about 29 missions, and the year is oct '42. I have looked in several locations including Scapa flow and Gibraltar but all i seem to find is destroyers and armed trawlers. I fancy getting some carriers and battleships.
thanks for your reply ![]()

there's a spoiler list of docked capital ships at the bottom of this page:
http://www.communitymanuals.com/shii...unting_Grounds i've read on these boards about capital ships in gilbratar, although as you can see, there's no gilbratar on that list. could it be when task forces end their destination at gilbratar, they then just dock at port? I did my best following one task force once, but they easily outran me and never found out where they ended up going. maybe the game simply deletes them once they exit a few grids away? |

Trying to sink a BB at sea is pretty iffy, I was just plain lucky and did it once. Saw a DD on the horizon and submerged, on sonar, a whole pile of contacts could be seen so I set up an intercept course. Raised scope and saw four or five BBs doing about 20 knots, so targetted the last one and gave it four fish from nearly 5 km away, two hits which must have hit the engines as it stopped dead in the water. Evaded the DDs and finished off the BB when it was alone.
Loch Ewe is always good (and very easy to penetrate early in the war), usually a Nelson in there. It sits at the back of the harbour on the left (i.e. as you look into the harbour from the entrance). It is away from the docks so you needed to look around a little. And if you don't sink it with your first salvo, it has on occasion just brought up steam and moved over to the docks and parked again. |

if you can get close enough to the moored battleships, one torpedo at 90 degrees set to impact on the ammo bunker (always seem to be located under the main guns) and they go down

The straights of Gibraltar are good for finding Task forces not becase this is a start or end destination for them (although it is for several of them) but becase the routes for several task forces go through here. Its random when and where task forces will be along their routes during any of your assigned patrols, so sitting and waiting at the straight of Gibraltar bottleneck as a sort of "chokepoint" gives you the best chance of coming across one of these task forces. It could be hours before one turns up, or it could be days or maybe even weeks, so its not always fruitful, its just the luck of your timing. This website lists the task forces as well as moored capital ships throughout the campaign:
http://edseek.com/archives/2005/05/0...urvival-guide/ It has grid reccomendations for several other choke points besides Gibraltar for coming across task forces.
