Default Anyone have a Muffled Depth Charge Sound?

I'm looking for a muffled depth charge sound.....something that sounds more like an explosion underwater....that is being muffled by thick heavy water....the default one sounds too much like its traveling through air....anyone have any good ones? Thanks

I´m using this atm. I dont remember in which mod is it.
Here´s the link: http://rapidshare.de/files/13393929/...arine.wav.html

And here´s the one I use for the P05_@depthcharge_explosion:
http://rapidshare.de/files/13395023/...osion.wav.html

It´s the same sound, but slightly edited.

Muffled?

Are you aware that the speed of sound in water is 3x faster than in air?

Sound travels through water far better than through air. An explosion in water is anything but muffled! :hmm:

I knew some nerd was going to say this...so this is my response:
yes, I want a muffled sound...yes, I realize that sound travels faster in water then air....I also realize in reality depth charges are loud and probably would hurt my ears....so for entertainment purposes I would like to save my hearing for later in life... and make them muffled.

I have seen grenades go off underwater in real life and from the surface the explosion is a muffled sound.... you see the light then hear the burst but its quickly choked off from the water returning to fill the space that was created....I like that effect and would like to implement it in my game as an alternative to giving me hearing damage...

the sounds in the game by default sound like they are travelling in air...although I never heard an explosion underwater Im sure it doesnt have the same frequency as it does in the air and would probably sound different..take for instance when you try to talk underwater....you might be heard further and faster but, you won't sound the same as if you were talking in the air.

You can make the game sound any way you like, even if it's wrong

The sounds were not muffled underwater, crystal clear.

Oh, I'm not arguing or anything - I'm just making the usual pick at realism.

Saving your ears - good idea. I'm long gone in that regard

Actually, an explosion under water is in fact muffled. It's true that sound travels slower in air than water, but the sound is actually clearer in the air, where under water the sound can travel father faster, but you cannot hear the true sound underwater.

From all accounts i have read (us Sub accounts), the DC exploding sounds most commonly used (mods ive seen) arent accurate anyway.

From what ive read a DC exploding has two parts.

A click, and a boom. The click if i remember correctly is waterhammer or the force of the displaced water from the explosion, hitting against the side of the sub, being followed by the boom from the acutal explosion. The shorter interval between the click and the boom the closer the DC was to you. If you couldnt distinguish between the two anymore, was when you were in deep ****.

if a tree falls in the forest.....

I have done a little searching around to try to get good clarification on this. A lot of scientific formulas etc. but no clear answer. The way we perceive sound tends to make us think that , yes underwater sound would be muffled by the cloakingof the water around the explosion. Scientifically the sound actually travels faster and is very efficiently carried through the water. Over large distances there is loss of sound, just as in air. however, we are talking about massive explosions over small distances from the sub. these explosions would be too close for a noticable absorbtion of the sound wave.

i don't think this is applicable in how the sound will be perceived underwater. You are watching an underwater explosion(hopefully from a safe distance!) from the surface, the effect will not be the same., The sound is going to be dissapated once it leaves the water and travels through the air over distance.

The frequency will be the same, on land or underwater. Why would you not sound the same underwater? If we try to talk underwater, the water fills our mouths , trying to listen it fills our ears impeding our eardrum from vibrating. if you were in a diving helmet with air around your head speaking to someone beside you in the same, would you be heard normally?? Can you speak at a normal level or do you need to yell to force the sound along so to speak?

The question of how things sounded from within the sub came up while we were doing DBSM-PS for SH2. Oesten and Topp were asked, the response was that sounds were incredibly clear. They have heard quite a few depth charges

From what I remember, the aubible clicking referred to the firing pin.I think there were two accounts on that page that described the sound, and I think some of it was discreditted?? If you could hear that you were in deep poo poo. At the same time, if that click could be heard from within the sub, the sound was probably pretty clear.

Check these out for more info. The last link has some great sound bytes! The soundof the DC explosion from within the sub is interesting. Remember though, that is was recorded at a ratehr large distance 300yards/meters(not what is listed on the page but what the commentator says) much further away than a damage causing DC drop would be.
