Default Distance between convoy rows

I usually attack perpendicular to a convoy's path and so it would be faster to manually adjust distance in the TDC than to highlight a ship with the crosshairs, check-mark it's type than do the whole horizon top of the mast thing, especially in choppy waters. It'd be great to figure the first lanes distance attack the prime targets in that lane, then move on down from lane to lane.

My second question is how much of a difference range estimation makes to the firing solution. I know 1000m would, but what about 100m or 200m? In other words, how much can I be off to get an exact hit? I know plotting a ship's path needs to be exact when getting range, but the firing part is a mystery to me, I heard you can be off by 50m and still get that torp right under the smoke stack or ammo mag.

Love the input on your experiences.
