Default Aiming

This is a subject that has been confusing me for quite a while now. Aiming torpedoes. How do you do it?
I read some reviews of SH3 and in one of them there was a picture of a Nelson and the text: "You should aim under the front gun-emplacements, that´s where the ammo storage-room is located."
So I wonder, how can you aim a torpedo into a specific spot. All I do is lock the target, do the needed procedures and fire.
When the target is locked the aiming crosshair is at the middle of the ship. So can you move the crosshair (when target is locked) to a specific point or should you change some value in the TDC to higher or lower?
It is possible that I am missing something and my question is stupid but I might just ask...

Thank you for your patience.

As far as I know from what i've read, there is procedures to figuring out how to hit a ship in a specific spot. Of course this isn't the easiest thing in the world to do considering the fact that the ships speed slightly fluctuates, and other factors that come in to play. So I think you need some luck on your side as well. I'm still doing auto targeting since i'm new, but i've read quite a bit on it.

Old saying I heard:

The dumbest question is the one that never gets asked.

Never be afraid to ask any question because to enjoy most things you need to understand them for yourself.

So all questions are good and should be respected

Here is another good site to check out:

Have Fun!

I'll answer all your questions as I've pulled off sinking a number of BB's with one shot. Like Wolfram said, goto:

http://www.paulwasserman.net/SHIII/

Pick the method that suits you (I usually get the target's speed and heading at a dead stop because it's more accurate to plot on the map if my ships cursor is stopped or moving slow and use the Fast Advanced 90 method to set the gyro) and you'll find that at the end of every method, the last adjustment you make is the target's distance. After you get the range, hit the lock button again to unlock and aim the cross-hairs at the first gun emplacement, another good spot is directly under the smoke stack to hit the engine room. For where to hit a ship goto:

That's the key right there... you can't really aim for a specific part of the boat while the scope is locked... not at the higher realism settings anyway.
