Default Game hanging up...

Hi guys....well I may have finally done it...I may have worn my Silent Hunter CD out......it seems that lately when I am playing the game...it will get hung up and skip like a old record used to do....the music will get stuck and keep repeating itself and I wont be able to move my cursor...the only thing I have been able to do to get it unstuck is hit ALT TAB...this usually does the trick, but this happens quite often now......quite annoying I might add....also it seems if I time compress a lot, the display will move in slow motion on anything above 128.....anyone else experiencing this????

That could be caused by all kinds of things, maybe it´s a sound card related problem, maybe a graphics card problem or maybe something completely different. Some things you could try:

Try some other games, if they show a similar behaviour you know that it´s a general problem with your system.

Check you system for viruses and spyware (with Spybot and AdAware).

Move all gramophone files to another location to see if that is maybe the problem. They are in data\sound\gramophone.

Disable the hardware sound acceleration (Start/Run/dxdiag, Sound tab).

Install the latest soundcard driver, if that doesn´t help install an older version.

Try the same with the graphics card driver.

Thanx for the tips....I have updated my graphics and sound card drivers in the past and this has just started occuring...so I dont think it is the issue...I run adaware, spybot and a couple of others..so I think I have that covered....I have not tried the gramophone files move....where should I move them to?? I am not a big gamer...Silent Hunter is it......so I am going to have to find another one I guess.....and like I said....it seems to only happen on a regular basis when I TC a lot...I appreciate your input though..thanx....Rick

Once the game checks my disk, I just take it out - for the rest of the time I'm playing. I try to handle it with 'kid gloves' because I know I'm screwed if it gets messed up...

Drivers can break, it happened to me a few days ago. Reinstall them, maybe it helps.

Doesn´t really matter, create a new directory on drive C (like C:\Backup) and move all gramophone files there.
