Default Health and Safety

[rant]

I started off being amused by this story from fark.com, then a feeling of incredulity took over: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...013173,00.html. It's like the briefing my guys have to listen to before going onboard a ship or sub to do any work, ie:

There may be potential lethal voltages (we look after computer systems)
There may be ladders you can fall off
There may be explosives (go figure)
etc
etc

It's all just the paranoia of employers that you'll sue their arses off if you get hurt in the course of your work, not helped by the idiots who sue at the drop of a hat - encouraged by the ambulance-chasing idiots of lawyers.

You'd rather enter the ship without knowing any of that?

Remember Port Chicago 1944.

Well, I don't know what you're talking about because I get a 404 error in the link.

Now it makes alot more sense.

Well, how silly.

Take that safety report and ask for a volunteer, accept only the fittest, this route is a walk in the park compared to what has to be done to deliver mail deep inside the Amazon jungle, the candidate accepted can receive a little bonus, or a big bonus, but if the silly inspector can do it, so can a trained dedicated postman.
