Renown tips

I was wondering a few things about renown, such as do you get more renown for sinking ships in your patrol zone? If so is it smart to sit in your patrol zone and wait for enemy ships to pass by? Do you get much renown from downing airplanes?

another question. It took 3 torpedos to sink a T3 tanker yesterday. what can i do to streamline the sinking of such massive ships?

Will answer some of your answers about renown. As far a sinking a T3 sometimes it only takes one. Not every ship sunk by U-boats went down with one or two hits. The crews tried to keep them afloat.
