Default Is there a way use deck gun during storms?

is it possible to change any parameters in the game files to enable deck guns during storms?

Yes, that is easy. The dev team provided you with some parameters and wrote in the readme file:

" 7. Customizable values for storm parameters for each U-Boat (see StormConditions entry for each uboat.cfg file);"

For instance file:

UbiSoft/SilentHunterIII/data/Submarine/NSS_Uboat2A/NSS_Uboat2A.cfg

Then locate text:

StormConditions=7,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

And change the 7 or 0.1

First number is max windspeed before it is considered to be a storm, second number is rain intensity before it is considered a storm. Just play with those settings untill they are to your liking. Don't forget to do it for all other uboat types as well.

Good hunting !

By the way, that doesn´t work with earlier SH3 version, you need patch 1.4b .

Just FYI the game looks at both equaly. Meaning a storm is classfied as:

X winds
And/ OR
X rain.

so if you set it wind to 15, the game wont consider any wind below 15 a storm. however, with the default 0.1 rain intensity, so much as a water droplet drops on you from the sky and its considered a storm

Personnaly ill use 10 to 12 winds and 0.8 rain participation.

If you want to use them in any weather then its 15 winds and 1 participation. However by doing this, your watchcrew will NEVER put on their rain gear because they dont think its storming. Even if you have 15 winds and a heavy driving rain. Waves are crashing over your conning tower and dunking your watchcrew for as long as 3-4 seconds, and you can still man the deck gun :rotfl:

I think anything over 10 is unrealistic. Sometimes 10 is hard to get a shot off.

What values do you guys use?

I'm thinking to start with 8 since on 7 meters/sec waves already start sweep over the deck.

Are any cumulative mods (RUB?) increase the default limit?

Thanks.

I have mine set to 12 so I can use the flak guns in heavier weather. I use the 'Big Waves' mod, and I just don't use the deck gun if I can see the waves washing over the deck.

The biggest downside is that the 'oilskins' wet-weather clothes are also governed by the storm state, so I sometimes end up with heavy waves and rain, and the crew dressed for Martinique!
