bunch of questions in my head:
is it possible to give each individual aircraft its own sound? i am currently doing a basic conversion of Real Merlin sounds and others (Cfs series) to give the SH III Planes a more real sound. But some planes (arado, swordfish for ex.) share the same sounds, wich bugs me. where would i look? cant find anything in then cfg files... ![]() Also/ what exact formate must the sound files be in? i use PCM formate, 44100 Hertz, Mono (same as the default sounds) Software i use is the basic sound converter that comes with winXP ok, i know nothing about sound editing at all... ![]() ![]() Problem/ sometimes when i checj the Museum; the planes with new sounds gimme a CTD or the sound aint working at all... ![]()

Hi HundertzehnGustav,
It's probably possible, but it would take some further detective work to figure out all the hooks... I had a look. Looks like there are 7 aircraft sounds shared among 13 aircraft. Game sounds for all units, etc. are defined in the \Sounds\Sh3.sdl file. Each aircraft (or unit for that matter), points to its sound definition in the Sh3.sdl file. As far as I can tell, adding a sound would mean adding a new definition to the Sh3.sdl file, choosing a new index for it, placing the .WAV file itself in the same folder, then pointing to the new index from the unit's .DSD sound file. The main problem is adding the new definition, as the Sh3.sdl file has to be rebuilt. No way to rebuild this file, except by hand in a hex editor, hoping that the above theory is correct. There's also the matter of a file the game calls sample.wav (probably a dummy file). Not sure what it is, but it is referenced many times in the Sh3.sdl file, and may be used too for aircraft in some way. TT |

ah hell
![]() so it is that sdl file then... and i dont know how it works, even tho i opened it with the hexeditor and hexeditors i dont use that often, only in Cfs3 i better leave it untouched then, but try to work out the sound bugs and CTD things... ![]() still better n nuttn' thank you, timetraveller... you taught me a lot with your post. ![]() ![]()
