Default what happens if....?

......You sail to the eastern or western edge of the map in SH3?

do you...

a) spawn on to the other/opposite side?
b) hit land mass or an invisible wall?
c) fall off the edge of the world?
d) Crash to desktop?

Just wondering since ive never tried it.......
also does any one have some screenies of the arctic circle? Is there an ice shelf/wall? (i know about ice bergs)

A) You appear on the other side of the map (thats East West\West East only).
North South/South North you have an impassable land mass(read North Pola ice cap - South Antartica LAND MASS) since you cant go past the North Pole and end up suddenly at the South Pole for real on the globe.

Related Question:

Is the world in SHIII a proper sphere, just represented as a flat map in the navigation section.

I ask because when you plot a waypoint on the map, a straight line appears between the flag and you. Yet on very long distance patrols, the shortest route would be a curve to the north.

The curve of the earth would be too time consuming to program. Surely.

It's a flat map for simplicity's sake, but you won't fall off any edges. Instead, you'll be transported to the opposite side.

Shame there isnt anything to sink out there. That would be cool to operate out of penang and go sink something coming out of Hawaii or the californian coast.

You'd think there'd be a crapload of stuff given the fact that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour in order to destroy the BULK of the US Pacific fleet. Sadly this stuff is very hard time consuming and probably noy worth the effort considering the fact that 99% of the game's users likely won't ever go there. That and the U-boat fleets operated almost 100% in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and North Sea so if this game is aiming to simulate that experience it would be "out of character" to be even in those waters of which you speak.

I understand the reason why it would be flat... but surely that makes the game very unrealistic, as it increases the size of the North Atlantic and makes a journey across more time consuming and more importantly, more fuel consuming.

Not entirely.

What amazes me is how many boats were there, quite a few apparently.
http://uboat.net/maps/indian_ocean.htm

ONE boat DID make it into the pacific, near austriala and sank a ship there, but thats about it.
