Hmm. It sounded pretty good if you walk into the diesel room. But for exterior sound not good enough IMO. It lacks the low tone rumble that powerfull diesels have.

Agreed!

If we get the engineroom implented somehow, someday. Then this´ll be my choice of sound, but for exterior sound:

Just a note about the exterior desiel sound...you would not hear much at all. Even at flank speed there wouldn't be much heard on the bridge unless the engine room door and exterior hatch were open. Even throughout the boat, it was fairly quiet when the engine room door was shut. Above the waves it was pretty silent. There would be a lot of vibration noticable at higher speeds not a lot of noise.

I don't remember the source (book) anymore cos there was so many of them that I read about U-Boats for the past few months. But I remember one saying that the bridge was very noisy place to be. Sound from the wind, waves, air inlets for the diesels and the boat itself, diesel exhaust sound (actually pretty loud even located 15-20 meters behind the bridge). It also said that it was pretty much impossible to hear aircrafts propeller noise behind all these. The type VII and VIIB had the diesel exhaust silencers exits located above the waterline witch made it noisier than type VIIC for example. Most certainly the noise from the actual diesel engine room didn' t reach the bridge via galley, senior rate's quarters, control room and the attack central in the conning tower.

Can we mod SH3 so that all the bulkhead doors are open? I remember reading that most Kaleuns in the war didn't have them all closed even though it was apparently "in the book" to keep 'em shut. I read an account of an anal retentive Kaleun who made his crew keep the doors shut.

WHAT!!!

Krupp, was away for some weeks, is it now possible to enter the Engine room?
If so, how? when opening bulkheads, what do you see beyond?
No mod to have them opened yet?

Sorry to disappoint you but no, you can't enter the engine room
I was just referring to that sound file on top of this topic. IT sounds to me like a good sound IF you enter the diesel room. Which would be nice tho.

Here comes the "Realistically silent" Version of the sound!
It is so silent that you can barely hear it while running at flank speed in the watch tower!!!

http://rapidshare.de/files/11471369/...erior.wav.html

Sorry because the too loud sound,i like realism so here is the realistic version!!!
