Just wondering what if anyone keeps a track of the longest range kill they have? I got one from 3850 metres just a little while ago on a C3 which was on the far side of a convoy.
I was hoping to slow him down a bit and to break up the convoy because when they zig zag it breaks down the convoys speed and allows me to get in closer (for those times when I'm not in a great starting position). |

Like your thinking. I've never even attempted a shot at that range before, but I guess as the campaign goes on, I'm going to have to stand off a bit further.
In my rash early days I once got so close that the torpedoes didn't have time to arm themselves! LS |

Don't shoot 'till you see the whites of their eyes, men!
Average range for me is less than 1000m, can be troublesome when trying to manuver in the midst of a convoy, but usually assures a hit following the one ship one torpedo ethos ![]() I find 500m is just about right... as for longest shot- 2000m t2 tanker. Maybe I'll have to practice my sniping towards the end of the war in the hopes of reducing detection.

I nailed a destroyer doing 25 knots from 8200 meters once. It was at night, of course, because I had to use one of the T1's.
I was down to my last torp and stumbled across him on my way back to port, so I took a chance. Before anyone asks, yes, I use the weapons officer!

3500m on a lone small merchant, and to top it off, I wasn't aiming at him. I hit the enter key by mistake!
![]() Most shots are around 1200-800m. In bad weather I find it better to steam along side targets and use high deflection gryo shots. A little tricky but gives you more time to set the shot up in poor visability. |

5500 meters with a steam torp, sinking a T2 tanker. Multiple consecutive hits on merchants from 3800 to 4700 meters.

A crapshot on a Nelson from 4000 meters. He was framed by two Revenges, and only guarded by one DD... The first I'd seen in the war.
But I got scared so I just fired a spread of all my remaining torps from afar. Got a hit. Dud. So I guess it doesn't really count as a kill ![]() |

Actually, I should have named the topic, longest range hit, which would be fairer, so I'll pay the hit on the Nelson. I really wanted to know at what range it was possible to hit targets.

I sank a Southampton Class C with two eels at 5200 yds yesterday....
Couldn't believe it. I was sure he would see them in time. |

I've never been sure of what range I have with the torps, so I try to shoot at 1200 yards or closer.
But after reading some of these posts I just may try longer (and safer?) shots. ![]()
