Default CTD's when "Initializing..."

I've done some reading around here, trying to find out what I can about CTD's, but all the CTD's I've read about have happened either during the main loading screen or while playing the game. My CTD's are happening whenever I try to load a saved game, or when I try to start a single mission. The loading bar comes up, goes all the way to the end, and then I get dropped straight to the desktop with no error message.

I've been playing the game fine for quite a while now without this problem. A couple days ago I installed some older video drivers to try to sort some other minor problems out. The game still loaded up and ran fine after that, so I don't think they were the problem. To be sure I installed brand new drivers, and have the same problem.

I'm also wondering if it could be caused by some spyware crap that I noticed within the last couple days. I see two processes running in task manager that I don't recognize, but searching for them on Google yields 0 results, which is very odd. I'm having some real issues trying to get rid of those bastards, they're very strange acting compared to a lot of the spyware and viruses that I've dealt with in the past.

I just don't know how to narrow this down, it's ticking me off. Has anyone had this specific problem before?

This problem is usually mod related.

A few times when I've edited menu_1024_768.ini, that has happened. It can happen with other mods too.

Try uninstalling or un-modding something so that you can isolate the problem.

Well, I was wondering if it was even SHIII related, I was real suspicious of those two bastard processes that were running, so I ended their processes and tried it again. It actually worked, I was able to load a single mission. I immediately paused the game and came here to report my success. I would call it a 100% success, but as I was typing this message, a window popped up, it looked like one of those "such and such program has crashed, do you want to send an error report" type windows. As it came up, I was in the middle of hitting the spacebar, and since one of the buttons on that window was highlighted, the spacebar "clicked" it, and the window went away, along with SHIII. So, who knows, I'll have to go back in and see if it's still screwed up or not

Well, it's my computer. Don't know exactly what's going on, but I'm pretty sure it's not SHIII.

I had the same problem after installing IUB 1.01. Game loaded and when the
time came to switch to graphics - it CTD. Funny thing was RUB 1.45 ran
w/o problem. First thing i did was to set the swapfile to 2GB, second
was to update my JSGME to the latest version (1.1.1 to 1.3.x). Installed
IUB 1.02 and no problems so far.
