Dear all
Does anyone know what is the main limitation for passive sonobuoy lifetime? Is it the energy spent in VHF transmission or hydrophone/electronics? Is there any public domain documentation about this issue? Best regards, Antonio Grilo |

The details would depend on actual type of sonobuoy, but in general you should assume several watts for RF. Audio signal amplification is probably below 100 mW but every additional digital signal processing circuitry will add to the power budget.

I upload a pdf file (sonobuoy card) on rapidshare, there is the lifetime of sonobuoy and other info on it (I forgot the source link of the file, so credit belong to those who make the pdf)
