Default IUB crew cheer driving me bonkers

With the IUB mod, the crew cheer upon scoring a hit is now a very lame-sounding "Yay".

Every time I hear this, I get to feeling that my crew are a bunch of Kriegsmarine fashion-design lads who would prefer to be back on the mainland doing home decorating.

I want to restore the orignial cheer. I have tried restoring all the orignal crew speech files, but that didn't work.

I have read thru the mod documentation, but I can't figure out which file to replace.

Help! Is there any way to uninstall the one or two things that bug me without uninstalling the whole IUB mod?

I agree....it sounds too much like the crew is just humoring the captain with thier unenthusiastic cheer.....

Would you prefer a "Yah"?

Avon Lady, your are the Über Mom!

I didn't use the mod you listed per-se, but it made me realize the data/library/pump.dat file waqws the one that needed replacing.

My crew is sounding, well, masculine again.

Somebody should mod in the cheer from Das Boot and all will be fine. The current one is absolutely silly

Mingus, the basic vanilla game does not have a crew cheer in the German voice, only English. There was a mod made that added it to the German but, as you have read, some do not like it. Several surviving u-boat crewmen have stated that they did not cheer when their torpedos hit a ship because, they thought about the sailors on those ships, and knew what they would be going through.

I understand that........but you also listen to some Captains...like Hardgen...or Topp...and they said that it was all about "Sinking Shipping". Alot of times they didn't put faces to the ships........

I guess it's up to the person...

From one who has laid (more than once or twice) the crosshairs of an 8x Unertel scope on another human being...and pulled the trigger (and SEAL snipers don't miss...ever!)....I can assure you there is no cheering. Satisfaction at mission accomplished...yes. Elation, grins, cheering and gloating...HELL NO!!! Hell...it could have been you on the receiving end...if nothing else. Same for submarines. Inner pride in doing your duty well, yes...outward gloating over death and destruction...no. These guys were professionals (down to the 18 year olds)...they were not psycho nutcases. Those that go down to the sea in ships are professionals...those that don't are just recreational jet skiers with a beer in their hand.

I am not sure but think I corrupted the file or been using the wrong location or maybe I should have built a data/library JSmod for it. Now on last three missions (attempts) I get a crash or dump with the dreaded MS wants to report an error message.

Its the only thing (pump.dat) I changed and I am using the IuB 101 to 102 patch on 101 IuB.

Was I supposed to exchange that file with the one in IuB\library not directly to data\library ?

Anyway for me its late and early call for r/l so going to try again after work. Bu think this has to be the problem I tried the file and right as I hit small merchant and got the dump happened....

Oh well worst case scenario I am going to load it all up again from the start with the disk, patch, JSmod etc....

Any ideas maybe my fellow Kaleuns?

TIA

In mod enabler format, can't remember who made the Das Boot .ogg file, been awhile.

In this you are absolutely right and there is no question about it, but you have to separate between a soldier who can see the effect on what he/she has done and soldiers who kills indirectly. In a submarine most of the time only the captain at the periscope could see what happen. Cheer's from crew (if it was any) was more of a reaction that they finally got the chance of doing what they where trained to do and did it well. They where all of course well aware of the effect on what they did, but these thoughts often comes afterwards, when they have the chance of reflect upon theis actions.
You can compare with artilley soldiers who fires upon coordinates and can only visualize what they actually do.

So my opinion is that this "crewcheers", if there was any, was more a reaction of crew did their job well and not that they actually caused death, horror and misery over the crew of the attacked ship. This thoughts came later when action was over.
