Kaleun is a nickname for Kapitanleutnant.
But it was used as a nickname for the captain on the Uboat. |

Kaleun or Kaleunt was the short form for the rank Kapitänleutnant til 1945, today in the German navy it is Kaleu.

I think Kaleun is still used - if i remember correctly when I was in the German army we called the commanding officer from a navy unit "Kaleun".
IMHO Kaleunt, Kaleu and Kaleun all today can be used - last one being most common. But its still a kind of nick - correct rank, as mentioned above is called Kapitänleutnant Equal american navy rank is Lieutenant. |
