Default About sailing on the surface with decks awash

The newer version of RUB has this capability, and some time ago, a thread oppend and discuss this problem, but the only way to do that in the game is to do as the previous thread say's? There is no mod,besides the RUB that do this with out changing the diving times of the boats?

Im confused again. The main and only purpouse with running "decks awash" is to shorten your diving time if you need to dive quickly. This works in game. But there is no difference in time when they spot you just because you have a smaller silhouette.

This is quite easy to mod your self.
Open the specific submarine .cgf file with a simple texteditor (like wordpad) and change the value for SurfaceDepth to 7.8;meters (default is 5.8) (you can use any value between 7.8 to 8.8 for type VII to stay surfaced but with decks awash. RUb uses "8" for VII and IX, "7" for II and "10" for XXI)

For example data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat7b\NSS_Uboat7b.cfg

[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=12;meters
SnorkelDepth=10;meters
CrashDepth=70;meters
MaxDepth=300;meters
SurfaceDepth=7.8;meters
TorpLaunchMaxDepth=20;meters
StormConditions=11,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

Maybe I have misunderstad you totally and if so my apologizes

does anyone know what would happen if I did this?

[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=12;meters
SnorkelDepth=10;meters
CrashDepth=70;meters
MaxDepth=300;meters
SurfaceDepth=-100.0;meters
TorpLaunchMaxDepth=20;meters
StormConditions=11,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

No, but I think that crew stays on deck until you reach 100m, then they will enter in to the sub.

(Make sure you lock the hatch properly before you dive :rotfl: )

I dunno if you noticed, but that is a negative one-hundred...

So is it possible for the u-boat to reach 100 meter's (in the air)? Trust me, there is a good reason behind all of my madness... I aboslutely NEED to get my sub to 100 m (in the air).

Rulle, or someone else, could you possibly test it for me?

I missed that "-" You win :rotfl:

I wonder what you are up to now mahrkimov :hmm:

You certainly not want a flying sub :P

Your sub wouldn't be yellow, by chance would it? :P

You should proberly set it to -25 so you can still fire your torps to the right 'depth'

Can I start spreading the rumour about "flyable-airplanes" mod for SH3??

Hello,

I've tried this setting to my subs (currently using VII-C), editing file 'NSS_Uboat7c.cfg'

[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=12;meters
SnorkelDepth=12;meters
CrashDepth=100;meters
MaxDepth=260;meters
SurfaceDepth=7.8;meters <-----
TorpLaunchMaxDepth=20;meters
StormConditions=10,1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

With a 7.8m setting, my sub still stays surfaced at 5-meters (looks like the default '5.8' meters.

Also tried to change 'surface-draft' using Timetraveller's SH3 Crush-Depth util, and still no decks-awash; same old 5-meter surface depth.

Is there some trick to get this working? I assume making it work is done by pressing the 'S' key for 'Surface', would keep the sub-draft at the proper/edited setting?

Oh well the .cfg change doesn't work for me. Although it's easy enough to manually change surface-depth.

Btw I like the way Sh3 progressively handles differing decks-awash sub-speeds, because of increasing water-drag. :|\

I'm not sure exactly how this is supposed to work - I tried changing the surface depth setting to 7.something in the .cfg file too a while back, and didn't notice anything different for a while - every time I surfaced by just hitting "S" it would still take me up to the usual/previous fairly high 5.something or so.

Just last night though I decided to see if I could try running with decks awash (cruising near Dunkirk in daylight - figured I might need to dive in a hurry) and just clicked "7m" on the depth dial - sure enough, I was running with decks awash (looked cool from the external camera, too ) and my guys were still on deck. Also noticed that my speed did decrease a knot or two while running this way.

It was late and I didn't get a chance to test dive to see if it helped reduce dive time (I've read elsewhere that it does that), nor did I have time to try putting my guys on the deck gun just to see how funny that would look - may try that tonight

Running with decks awash is optional. As panthercules wrote, click the 7m mark.

Thanks for posting.

That certainly takes the 'mystery' out of the elusive decks-awash setting

It's probably best to manually change decks-awash anyway. It does slow the boat quite a bit, or will require more fuel trying to maintain a previous (default-surfaced) fixed speed. That plus the ever-changing weather and waves.
