Default Take that Norwegians - I fahrt in your general direction :)

LOL - I love this game

I'm starting out from Wilhelmshaven on my 5th patrol in my latest career - it's April 4, 1940, and I've been stalking and tracking down single merchants for the last 4 patrols only to have them turn out to be Norwegians (and therefore neutral) that I had to let go on their merry way - it was really starting to get to me and my crew.

This time, while on my way up the Norwegian coast toward my patrol zone I spotted a lone C3 about 150km out of Bergen heading west, and sure enough it's another Norwegian. This time, it's April 7th, and I have it on good authority (scuttlebutt from my good buddy Thomsen before leaving our base) that our invasion of Norway will start in just a few days...

Soooo, I decide to try a little experiment - I close to within 400m at periscope depth and let her have a torp in the engine room/propeller region. As I'd hoped, she comes to a dead stop but doesn't sink. Then, I crank up the TC and sit there for 4 days until April 11th, when I know for sure that Norway has become an enemy, at which point I send her to the bottom with some more torps (a 15m/s storm had brewed up in the meantime so I couldn't use my deck gun, and I had a couple of magnetic pistol misfires till I switched to impact for the coup de grace). Apparently, the impact of the first torpedo must have shaken up/destroyed her radio as well, because nobody came to her rescue in those 4 days of waiting.

Sure enough, when I saved and exited the game it gave me credit for 7,000+ tons of enemy shipping sunk, so my little experiment worked

That's just damn awesome. Just one of the tons of great experiences this game has to offer. Who cares if it wasn't realistic? It made for a fun time and a funny story to tell. Good deal.
