Default Damage Control Teams

Question:

I know that the damage control team (upper left of the crew screen) is responsible for repairing damage. However, are they also responsible for controlling flooding? My understanding is that the crew that is actually in a specific compartment is responsible for controlling flooding. Is this true?

Secondary question: if it is in fact true that flood control is managed by crew actually in a specific compartment, then does having crew there with damage-control ability have any effect on their performance with regard to flood control?

Anybody know?

Thanks,
Skinner

Any damage in a compartment will be repaired by crew present. The damage compartment guys repair wherever you tell them, though, which means that if you have flooding in a compartment it will be fixed by crew assigned there plus damage control (if you order them to help out). So yeah, I'd say it makes a difference.

I have found that "seeding" damaged compartments with repair qualified officers or POs does quicken the repair process. Not much, but everything helps when you are flooding!

Does anyone else think that repairs are too easy to make? I can understand fixing a flooding problem very quickly(in the movies they just put a clamp on it ), but I would think other repairs would take more than a minute or two. Or have I just been lucky enough not to have any serious damage?

The "Hollywood" damage model addresses this concept. You can download it from the Mods section. I spent half and hour trying to repair my crippled sub, but it never surfaced again. The "Hollywood" damage model is included in RUB.

Look out for an improved "Hollywood" mod that should make damage repairs a more in-depth experience...

As I understand it you place crewmen into the damage control box top left and then click on the section of the ship you want fixed and a little wrench will start turning when they are fixing something correct? I just had a patrol end abruptly when the damage control team didn't do a thing as the compartment flooded. The green bar was a little over halfway across the box so I'm guessing they could do the job. I frantically click on different compartments and watched them all flood.

Oh well, that's life (or death as it was).

The damage team are too effective in repair with this game and soon this will end.

Here are some facts on damage.

Only the damage squad can repair the crew quarters as the men in these areas do not help.

When you have a flood the men in the compartments will deal with it as well as the damage team so using both works better.

You will notice that the flooding time litterally halves itself for each man added to the reapair squad and this mainly causes the uber fixing.

The qualifications have benefits but alo have drawbacks in the damage model beacause the crew are just too uber with qualifications set so high.

The previous Hollywood mods could only play with the Zones cfg and was limited by the hull integrity in so far as getting better damage.

Now that Jungmann discovered Hull integrity we are getting some great results.

i.e. panic stricken floods With a slow but innevitable sinking to your death or skillfull regaining of control.

Repair times that now exceed 1 min upto 5-13 mins for some stuff.

Jungmann will be releasing a Die Hard version that shows the new capabilities discovered.

I have just come close to completing a Living crew model that is as close to real life as you can get and it fully complements the new damage finds in a uber immersive way.

Just got some last few tweaks and test to do.

So soon you will have a choice of what will be 2 very different yet 10 times better damage models than anything previously released.

Hope this helped

Oh yeah, and apparently the crew does not know enough to get out of the flooding compartment before it fills up. My entire damage control team drowned.

Or were they sailors fighting the good fight and following their captains orders to the very end....

Now that I think of it they just didn't know enough because as I said in my original post they all just stood there as the water rose around them.

Looking forward to the new Die Hard Mod. I was reading the posts about it the other day. That death screen was anti-climatic.

A pre release version of the new Hollywood pro series is in the mods section.

I am aiming to get the full version ready for Monday Night but now is the time for people to test it and see the differences.
