Default **released**SH3 vanilla1.4 sound bugfix

download: http://epic-corp.de/home/SH3soundfix.7z

This archive contains a fix for a bug found in silent hunter 3 v1.4 casued by a memory overflow when playing 44100hz, 16bits stereo sounds.
This bugfix works by converting all 44100hz, 16bits stereo sounds into mono.
If you have experienced crashes to desktop whit sound hangup or sudden system reboots (especially on computers with onboard AC97 audio) this could be the fix you need,
(and it dosnt harm to install even if you havnt, it might give you a performance boost)

this has been a known problem for awhile, but so far i havnt seen any released bugfixes for it, so now here is one

big thanks to oRGY for pointing me towards the problem.

install by copying the "data" folder into your main SH3 directory.

best regards/ Deckard

Hmm... I have that RealTek Audo AC97 on my computer and have never had any problems. I wonder what causes it? Maybe some new drivers may actually be needed?

I have a Realtek AC'97 Audio Onboard card and the only problem I have is for example when I play the bismark mission right when the sound plays for the battleship gun shots I get a snap/pop noise right at the begining when it plays, after a while it stops doing it though... kinda anoying and i sent in like 20 e-mails to Realtek explaining the problem to see if it can be fixed in a driver update. I also have the same problem when playing music with Winamp, there is a snap/pop noise at the begining of a song when its played.

realtek has released a load of diffrent drivers, some seems to work better then others,

but my guess is that you probably got pretty decent memory on your computer so you arnt that affected by the memory overflows. :hmm:

Excellent! Thanks!!! I was just running into this problem with latest C-Media AC97 Drivers for my onboard sound. Seems like latest drivers from C-Media in Dec 2005 had a problem with with 4.2b patch. Everytime I moved my mouse around to look in cabin in 3-d environment I would get a loud blast of this piercing static...this was jsut with vanilla install to no mods what soever....the only way to get rid of it was to install original drivers that came with my motherboard. No other games were effected so I knew it was soemthign in SH3 and the sound drivers. This sounds like it is exactly what I need. I will definately try it out and see if it solves my problem. Thanks again!

I have the Realtek AC97 onboard audio on the Asus P4P 800E Deluxe motherboard, with 2 gigs of memory.

I've have a buzzing sound that comes and goes after adding my Logitech 5.1 Surround Sound. Never had it with the stereo speakers on my LCD monitor. It only happens in SHIII and mostly in the single missions. No CTDs from it tho.

I'll give it a try when I RTB in my career.
