Some Gameplay Questions

Ahoy, its me again.

I've switched to Linux quite a while ago and sadly, there's not a single decent Sub Sim that works. The only one is Aces Of The Deep which I can run in DosBox emulation. And Dangerdeep which is about 5% done...

Now Silent Hunter looks VERY sweet and I actually consider getting me a nice small windows partition extra for the game. I've been playing AoD the past couple days and I just got remembered how really idiotic sub sims often are.

For example, my periscope being spotted from 10 miles away. At night. Or an escort, running its DIESEL engines and doing 12 knots, hearing me doing 6 knots from 8 miles away?! Stuff like that is really disappointing and I remember, almost all Sub Sims are full of stuff like that.

My question is, did SH3 get it right? Can you sneak up on a non radar convoy from behind? Can you be surfaced 600 m from an escort in a dark night and not get spotted? Did they get it right, finally, this time? Did they get the part about that 'Grosse Fahrt' means 17.4 knots on a Type VII and flank speed submerged means whatever the batteries are charged like?

Did they get it right this time?

Otherwise I'll probably have to start coding my own sim....

did they get it right, well almost, if i was you i would partition my HD install windows and start playing SH3 While your at it, try out the mods for SH3:
SH3 Commander 2.2
RUB 1.44
IUB 1.1

the game will then be as close as right as it will get.
