Default Dive Depths

This is really a two-part question:

1. In my Type VII-c, at around 177-178 meters, the crew starts telling me I am diving too deep. The maximum depth for the boat is listed as 225 meters. Can I actually dive that deep without taking a risk of damage? If I go to 226 will the boat immediately go 'squish'?

2. In the printed manual, the Type VII-c/41 is described as having a "thicker pressure hull enabling it to dive deeper" and yet its operational and maximum diving depths are still listed as the same as the VII-c. Can it really dive deeper? And if so, what are the "real" operational/maximum dive depths?

Duh. Okay, so I saved, then took the boat to 229m without incident.

For some reason the crew was not very enthusiastic about this 'dive test'.

So I answered the first part of my question ... the boat can slightly exceed its maximum. (I did not go until we crushed ... for some reason I just couldn't do it. I think maybe it would have given me bad dreams or something :rotfl: )

But the second part of my question remains. Is it worth spending the renown on the later model type VIIs, or do they really have the same dive characteristics of the VII-c?

I've hit 300m without crushing before. Thankfully I pulled out of the dive before I went any deeper. I was at 180m and took a very close depth charge that caused major flooding. I was holding my breath as we passed 280m, and ecstatic when the boat finally started crawling toward the surface.

This was in a VIIC that had no damage before that attack. If I had been moderately damaged before that flood, I'm sure I would've been crushed.

Just how does SH3 handle crush depth anyway? Does is just decide that you implode at such and such depth, or if you stay too deep for too long does your hull fatigue and then collapse?

And how does it happen in reality?

If you go deep enough try boat starts creeking, then all the glass blows out (good fun to watch), then you spring leeks, then you die.

I wonder if anybody else has gone this deep (or deeper?) and survived.

Edit: I just found out this topic has already been discussed pretty extensively here:

Apparently there's also a "Crush Depth Modifier" tool by Timetraveler, but I haven't figured out where it is yet.

Crikey! That would be an unpleasant way to die!

I only have one thing to say to you guys:

May you be able to set the depths at which you are to die...
just kidding, here ya go:

With type VIIB, the sub implodes at 245m.
230, the boat begins to creak loudly, the glass breaks.
243, lights flicker, bolts yield and you don't have time enough to blow your ballast and break the surface. the hull crushes before
