I have made a piece of diagram according to different speeds of the destroyer. Can find out from the picture the cigarette of different length can reflect different speeds that the destroyer goes. This is it judge to eye goal speed have heavy help very to look at.

A good observation W_clear,
![]() As for the wind-speed, I used to think that it effected the smoke but I noticed some ships travelling in opposite directions in a strong wind where smoke was leaning to the stern on both ships, that answered my question.
