Default SH3 Hanging in Map during time compression

Hi

I've cleanly installed SH3, then the 1.4b patch and then Improved Uboat (whichever is latest) and I'm hanging almost every time, although when is random, during a long transit at 1024 compression - or lower.

My rig is:

AMD FX 55
Asus A8N SLI Deluxe mobo
2GB Coursair Pro ram
2 x Xfx Geforce 7800 GTX Overclocked by manu. NOT ME
SB Audigy 4
2 x WD Raptor 74GB Raid

Is that enough info?

Thanks.

Damn woman! That's a nice rig. I'd kill for a setup like that!

Not sure what the problem could be though. Are your drivers up to date? Video and audio? Try turning down audio hardware acceleration to none in the control panel, under sound. See if that stops it. I noticed my engine sound cuts out when I go high in time compression and then back in when I go back to normal.

Perhaps, when it cuts out and tries to come back in, it's crashing the program? Just a random guess. Worth a shot though.

Hope this helps

I have 1.4b only. I've noticed a couple places on the map, the game momentarily freezes as the hard drive is being tapped. I believe this is a data load for the next portion of the map because it always happens. An example would be heading north or south and crossing the exact "middle" of the CG grid west of Spain.

My setup...

AMD FX-55
DFI LanParty nF4 Ultra-D motherboard
1 gig OCZ PC4000 ram
WD Caviar 7200 hard drive
Creative X-Fi Elite Pro soundcard
BFG GeForce 7800 GTX graphics

Hi Excalibur

Okay, I'll try that.

As for drivers...d'oh! I forgot to tell you guys didn't I.

Video: Forceware 78.01 (latest as far as I know)
Audio: Latest from UK's SB support page - it's the only one listed for the SB Audigy 4 Pro unit anyway.

I'm going to go and turn off the sound hardware accn. I too have noticed that at first the screen freezes, then the sound cuts out a second or too later...then none of the keyboard lighted keys work (num/caps/scroll) and I just have to hard reset and play from the most recent saved game.

Scrapser... It's not accessing the HD's... my HD access light is out and stays out...whilst I'm playing I'm reading (how sad right?) a sub book - Silent Service Seawolf class - and I've given the rig about 5 mins whilst I'm reading to see if it comes back and it doesn't, I've also watched the HD light to see if it is accessing the drives albeit very intermittently or sporadically, but alas it's completely stuck.

Thanks for your quick responses guys...this 'bug' is ruining what is becoming my fav. pc game....well that and FarCry.

Shame Dangerous Waters wasn't up to much eh?

Anymore thoughts anyone?

Rebecca

Welcome aboard, Rebecca!

I also think it could be the sound hardware acceleration. What you also could try if lowering the sound acceleration doesn´t help is to reduce the GPU and memory speed of your video card to default level. It´s a bit unlikely that the video card causes the problem, but it´s worth a try.
