Default Ran repair files do I need to reinstall patch?

I was seeing a lot of artifacts on the screen, I thought this might be due to some mods I had added without b/u the original file. So I ran a install/repair after deleting the modded files. I didn't reinstall the 1.4b patch. The first time I tried to play it wouldn't load my last save which was in a career mission. I loaded the last save that was "in base." This loaded and allowed me to play but my previous saves and career were wiped out. Under "career" there were a bunch of Patrol 1s. I had copied my savefile folder to desktop so I replaced the saves/career. I thought there might ba a conflict between the game versions. Trying to run the 1.4b patch and I get an error msg-
"Program cannot update the installed version of SHIII US DVD version 1.0 to 1.3 because of the following reason.
C:Program Files/Ubisost/SHIII/data/campaigns/campaign_LND.mis; Unknown Version"
Can I just delete the campaigns, install 1.4b and restore the campaign file? What is happening here? Thanks for any ideas, I really want to continue my career right now instead of starting over.
